Funding to support autism in secondary schools and colleges |

Sheila Coates Foundation has launched a £500,000 funding round to support the mental health and wellbeing of autistic young people in mainstream secondary and college education in England.
The funding is to support short term solutions that can be put in place immediately. In previous funding rounds, 97% of schools report a positive impact after only 5 months.
The fund is now open for applications from schools and colleges, with a deadline of Tuesday 7 May 2024.

Beaverbrook Vimy Prize - immersive educational opportunity |

The Vimy Foundation is launching the Beaverbrook Vimy Prize (BVP) to find one UK student (aged 15-17) for an immersive educational opportunity.
The BVP is a fully funded experiential program which provides to youth, ages 15 to 17 from Canada, the United Kingdom, and France, the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of those who shaped history.
Scheduled for 10 - 20 August 2024, BVP includes daily visits to major First and Second World War sites in France and Belgium. Featuring a unique learning approach, students gain international perspectives on key stories and events in history, whether well-known or under-told.

Govia Thameslink Railway poetry competition |

Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) is inviting children aged 5-13 to enter their poetry competition. To enter, pupils should write a short poem (50 to 150 words) about a place they love to visit by train on the Southern, Thameslink or Great Northern network or about what is great about their local area and why others should visit it by train.
10 lucky winners will be selected by GTR and Joseph Coelho, and winning entries will be displayed at stations and on trains on the network over the summer. Winners will also receive complementary return rail travel on their services for themselves and up to four family members to visit their favourite destination on the network.
Submissions close on Friday 10 May 2024. A PDF poster that could be displayed in school, handed out individually to pupils, or shared with parents is available here.

The Harbour School is looking for school governors who are passionate about positively impacting the lives and future aspirations of students. Collaborating closely with the School Leadership Team, you’ll help shape the vision and strategic direction, while also monitoring and supporting teaching and learning initiatives.
As a member of the Local Governing Board, you’ll convene six times a year, either in person or remotely, to discuss key matters. You do not need to have education experience, but corporate or professional experience would be beneficial.

New Theatre Royal Portsmouth has recently appointed a new board and a new chief executive at the start of an exciting chapter in the life of the theatre. They are looking to supplement the board with three new trustees, including an experienced trustee with a background in education.
They are looking for someone with recent experience of working in a school or college at a senior level (or similar type of role) who understands how the arts can support the national curriculum and offer opportunities to pupils.
The deadline for applications is 5pm on Monday 6 May 2024.

PITC are looking ahead to the next academic year and ways in which we can build on the fantastic relationships we have with schools within Portsmouth and surrounding areas. We would love to meet with schools and discuss how our paid and free funded delivery options may be of benefit to teachers and pupils alike.
Our paid options include whole school P.E PPA cover, lunch clubs, Makaton choir and individual or group mentoring for pupils, whilst our two free to access academic programmes, through the Premier League (Primary Stars) and English Football League (Joy of Moving), provide individual and whole class regular interventions and one-off activations in English, maths, PSHE and P.E, along with P.E CPD for teachers.

The next ALL Portsmouth Primary Hub meeting will be held online. Angela Smith from ALL Leicester will reprise the lovely session on poetry and languages that she delivered at the ALL annual conference in March.

An opportunity for young linguists to try their hand at translating a poem, either from a language they are learning in school, or from a language they speak at home.

National Commemorative D-Day 80 event |

There is an exciting opportunity for children in aged 10 to 18 to attend the National Commemorative D-Day 80 event on Southsea Common on Wednesday 5 June 2024 between 11am and 12.30pm, which will be broadcast live by the BBC.
The themes of legacy and remembrance will run throughout the performance, and as this is likely to be the last significant commemorative event with surviving veterans, the organisers are keen to share this occasion with a young audience.
Tickets for the event are free to schools. The deadline for replies is Monday 29 April 2024.

EBP South are now running a new Personal Development Programme for schools, colleges and sixth forms. This programme aims to provide early intervention and works directly with young people and young adults aged 14 to 19. The programme aims to improve confidence, resilience, self-awareness, communication and taking responsible risks to aid progression and personal development.
The sessions are run over three hours and focus on:
- Life skills: Life, goals, mission planning, valuing time and taking responsible risks.
- Financial skills: Work, basic financial skills, debt, assets, liabilities and making money.
- Personal skills: Image, impact, health, confidence and being interview ready.

Beep Beep! Day activities are the perfect way to engage young children in the fundamentals of road safety. They aim to protect children from the dangers of road traffic by educating them in a fun and inspiring way.
