City leader hails education recruitment event a success |
|

More than 300 people were welcomed through the doors of Portsmouth Guildhall on Monday 26 February at the Teach Portsmouth Jobs and Opportunities Fair. 24 exhibitors including schools, colleges and organisations, showcased a range of vacancies and training courses under one roof.
Councillor Suzy Horton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education at Portsmouth City Council said:
"Working in the education sector is one of the most rewarding professions out there. However, it can sometimes be challenging to find the right information and take that first step. It was a real pleasure to spend time speaking with those who want to support children and young people in schools and colleges. That energy and enthusiasm will serve everyone well as they begin that journey towards a new career in the classroom."
Attendees described the event as very professional and informative with helpful exhibitors. University of Chichester Academy Trust who exhibited, said that the taster sessions they were offering were really popular with 40+ people expressing their interest. Solent Academies Trust said the flow of the room worked well with plenty of interest in their roles.
Teach Portsmouth are welcoming interest from schools and colleges to exhibit at their next event: Support and Teaching Assistant Jobs Fair at Central Library on Tuesday 23 April 2024 from 1.30pm - 3.30pm / 4pm - 6pm (across two sessions). If you are interested in exhibiting, please email teachportsmouth@portsmouthcc.gov.uk.

School - business partnership opportunity with Griffiths |
|
|
Portsmouth City Council has been approached by Griffiths, a sustainable civil engineering company, with an offer of outreach work in schools. Griffiths are working with Portsmouth City Council on the South East Hampshire Rapid Transport Schemes with focus on three areas around the city (Lake Rd, City Centre North & City Centre South). These schemes are designed to improve active travel, bus priorities and pedestrian safety by creating safer cycle lanes, new controlled crossing points and new bus lanes.
They seem to be quite flexible in terms of what they are offering, suggesting that they could support secondary schools with mock interviews and/or CV writing, and with an offer to primary schools that could include STEM building activities or something focused on road safety or construction site awareness.
If you would be interested in following this up please contact Monique Upton Jubber, the Public Liaison Officer, at monique.upton-jubber@alungriffiths.co.uk.
Education Information Services school data meetings |
|
|
The next school data manager meetings organised by Education Information Services (EIS) will take place towards the end of March. These meetings are aimed at staff responsible for data and statutory returns (including head teachers, finance officers, MIS managers or admin officers). They are of benefit to both new and to experienced colleagues.
The sessions will include updates on the School Census, Synergy system, Primary School Attainment 2024 and other forthcoming data issues to ensure that schools are obtaining best value from the team. Sessions will be held via Microsoft Teams on Wednesday 20 March 2024 (PM) or Tuesday 26 March 2024 (AM).
Please book your session via the training and events area of the Portsmouth Traded Services website. Attendance is free for schools that purchase the EIS SLA. Schools that do not buy the full SLA can pay to attend on an ad hoc basis.
For further information, please email: education.informationservices@portsmouthcc.gov.uk.
School grounds and nature projects for climate resilience and health and wellbeing |
|
|
As part of our ambitions to be a Green and Healthy City, we are keen to help schools develop their school grounds using nature, benefitting student and staff health and wellbeing as well as climate resilience. We are also keen to understand the ways in which school grounds across the city are currently providing benefits for students, including the opportunity to connect with nature; shade on hotter days; and improved air quality.
We would be grateful if you could spend ten minutes completing our survey. We currently have limited funds to support a number of schools with school ground development, including design and planting. If you are interested, please leave your contact details at the end of the survey and we will get in touch with you. The survey will close at the end of March.
Another opportunity is that the Woodland Trust are currently making free hedging and trees available to schools and communities. Visit the Woodland Trust website for details and to apply.
Household support fund family vouchers |
|
|
Lower-income families with children aged 0 - 19 who didn't qualify for a supermarket voucher from a school this winter can apply for a supermarket voucher code, worth £80 for each eligible child. Their total household earned income (excluding benefits and tax credits), in the month before applying, needs to be £1,500 or less.
This includes families who received vouchers for school age children but who have other children aged 0-4 or 16+, and families with a low income who don't quite qualify for free school meals.
This scheme is open until 12pm on Friday 15 March 2024. This is a limited pot of funding, so the scheme may close sooner if the funds have been used up.
People can find out more about who is eligible for each scheme and how to apply, and other help available from HSF, on the Portsmouth City Council website.
Take our bus stop survey |
|
|
Share your views! What do you think about bus stops in the city? Let us know your thoughts by taking this short survey, but hurry, it closes on Sunday 17 March 2024.
Now is the time to tell us your ideas about how to improve bus stops and shelters in the city, so that we can make them more comfortable and accessible for everyone. It only takes a few minutes to complete.
