Advice on winter bugs and keeping well |
|
|
With temperatures dropping this month Clare Joy – an NHS school nurse working locally – explains in this short video some top tips on keeping winter bugs at bay and using the Healthier Together app for advice.
You can watch on the Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS YouTube channel.
Download Healthier Together for advice with common childhood illnesses
It can sometimes be hard for parents to know the best way to help children recover from winter bugs. Healthier Together has been developed by local clinicians and gives simple advice on how to help them get better at home.
The app will also help you to spot the signs if it is something more serious and guide you to the right help. Visit what0-18.nhs.uk, download from the App Store or get it on Google Play.
The UK Health Security Agency have also published helpful advice on spotting the signs of when to keep children home. You can visit the Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS winter wellness web page for more advice on keeping warm and well this winter.

Help us make the Teach Portsmouth Jobs and Opportunities Fair a success |
|
|
The Teach Portsmouth team need your help in attracting parents/carers to attend the Teach Portsmouth Jobs and Opportunities Fair at Portsmouth Guildhall on Monday 26 February 2024 from 10am to 2pm. Over 24 exhibitors will promote jobs, training and volunteering opportunities in schools and colleges across the city.
We are asking schools and colleges to share this information with parents and carers to increase interest and awareness about careers in education. Please include this suggested text and image in your school newsletters and social media pages. A poster to print or share online is also available.
If you need something more bespoke, email teachportsmouth@portsmouthcc.gov.uk.
Gained qualifications abroad? Share your experience at the jobs fair
During the Teach Portsmouth Jobs and Opportunities Fair, we hold a series of information sessions to help people navigate their options when it comes to working in education. To help bring topics to life, we often work with school staff who share their experiences.
We are looking for a teacher or teaching assistant who has joined a primary or secondary school, who has gained qualifications in another country. We often receive questions about working in schools if you have gained qualifications and how to approach getting a job in the UK.
If you have a staff member who could talk for about 4 - 5 minutes and would be happy to take questions from attendees, that would be fantastic. In the first instance, please email teachportsmouth@portsmouthcc.gov.uk and a member of the team will be in contact.
Good Ofsted ratings for three Portsmouth schools |
|
|
Congratulations to St Paul's Catholic Primary School, Stamshaw Junior School and King's Academy College Park (Infant) for achieving 'Good' ratings following recent Ofsted inspections.
In their report for St Paul's Catholic Primary School, inspectors highlighted:
"Pupils are happy and proud to be members of this vibrant school. They welcome newly arrived pupils and support them to quickly form strong friendships. Pupils actively involve others in their play and seek to support anyone who needs help. They value the diverse school community, being curious to learn more about each other’s different backgrounds. Pupils talk about the school being ‘a family’ where everyone is accepted."
In their report for Stamshaw Junior School, inspectors highlighted:
"Pupils are flourishing both academically and pastorally because of the school’s high expectations. At the heart of the school is the vision of ‘Be kind. Do your best. Achieve together’. Pupils show kindness to each other and include everyone. Indeed, one staff member commented, ‘This is the most caring school I’ve worked in.’"
In their report for King's Academy College Park (Infant), inspectors highlighted:
"Pupils are happy and safe in this vibrant school. The school’s ‘dragon values’ of kindness, responsibility, resilience, teamwork, challenge, independence and creativity are well understood by pupils. They are proud that these values guide them in school and beyond. Pupils know that staff expect them to behave well. They are respectful and considerate of each other. Pupils say, ‘Everyone is kind here, so no one has any broken feelings.’"
