Commissioned by the Department for Education, Anna Freud have collaborated with a range of education and mental health experts to produce this new hub for mental health leads and other education staff.
The hub will support schools and colleges to embed and sustain a whole-school or college approach to mental health and wellbeing. It offers practical resources and tools from trusted organisations, including senior mental health lead training providers, all under one roof, further supporting mental health leads to continue to develop their role and better support the children and young people in their setting.
The hub has been designed in consultation with a wide range of sector and professional bodies to ensure it is suitable for different setting types and age ranges, distinguishing between the bespoke needs of a varied workforce.
Free sailing opportunities available for children in receipt of service pupil premium |
|
|
Portsmouth Military Kids and The BOLEH Trust are pleased to announce sailing days for 2024!
The BOLEH Trust is a charity that provides sailing opportunities to a wide range of young people who may never have experienced sailing before. It also presents new challenges for those who have sailed before. Boleh means ‘can do’ in Malay and it is this ‘can do’ philosophy which has driven the project, first to restore the Boleh junk yacht and now to put her back to work, restoring self-confidence, developing teamwork and rebuilding lives.
These fabulous days for our service pupil premium children allow the opportunity for our young people to form bonds of friendship, a support network and the building of team work.
This is completely free to schools, but BOLEH is run entirely by volunteers who arrange time off from their employment to provide this wonderful day for our SPP pupils. Please do take advantage of this opportunity, but bear in mind that last minute cancellations by schools can be extremally frustrating.
BOLEH sailing is aimed at year 6 and above, but there is flexibility for year 4s and 5s to participate.
Numbers for sailing days are:
Year 6 and above = maximum of 6 pupils plus 1 adult (you can bring extra adults if needed for SEND)
Year 5 = maximum of 5 pupils plus 1 adult
Year 4 = maximum of 4 pupils plus 1 adult.
You can mix your year groups if needed, but the maximum number of pupils allowed for that trip will be worked out from the youngest year group. You can also request more than one day if necessary.
This is a free opportunity for our SPP pupils, however, transport to and from Haslar Marina is the schools responsibility.
For further information and to book places please contact Katie White on katie.white@aggies.org.uk
Ending gender-based violence and abuse in young peoples relationships |
|
|
In 2022, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan launched a new campaign – Have A Word – calling on men to reflect on their own attitudes and to say something when their friends behave inappropriately towards women.
In August 2023, updates have been made to a toolkit for schools and colleagues. This resource can contribute towards ending gender based violence and abuse in young people's relationships.
Please see london.gov.uk/maaate for more details about the campaign and the school toolkit.

Update from Teach Portsmouth |
|
|
Teach Portsmouth would like to thank all the schools and training providers who exhibited at their information event for those interested in becoming teaching assistants.
Over 50 people attended two sessions at Paulsgrove Community Centre on Wednesday 15 November to learn about careers in the classroom.
The team would like to update colleagues on what's next and how your school can get involved.
Thank a school superhero campaign
Parents/carers and their children will have the opportunity to thank a school superhero online as part of a new campaign. We will be launching a new web page on the Teach Portsmouth website that will allow families to say thank you to a school team member through the use of an online form.
These thank you messages will be collated and sent to schools at the end of the year in a special printed document which can be displayed in receptions or staff rooms.
We would welcome schools and their involvement in the campaign by displaying postcards in receptions where parents/carers can write a special message on. This part will launch W/C 15 January 2024. We would encourage schools to have a small box or area where these messages can be collected with the postcards located close by. We will provide more information on this part of the campaign in a future edition of the bulletin.
