LGBTQ workshops and mural |
|
|
This September young people in Portsmouth came together to create something special – a mural called Love is Love in Orchard Park.
After the murder of 16-year-old trans girl Brianna Ghey in February, the Youth Cabinet channelled their grief into action. They organised two workshops with street artists Samo and Fark and young LGBTQ+ people from across the city, followed by the mural installation and community picnic.
This video can be shared with students during tutor time or PSHE lessons so they can hear about the project and have their say in the development of future Youth Cabinet campaigns.

Do you have a need to recruit support staff for your school or college in 2023/24? Teach Portsmouth's become a teaching assistant events have welcomed over 300 people through their doors since launching last year. Schools and colleges who have attended these events have recruited both teaching assistants and volunteers into support roles. There are two sessions across the day with a series of presentations from training providers and school staff who share their experience from inside the classroom.
The fee for MATs to exhibit is £300 + VAT and for schools is £200 + VAT. If you would like to exhibit at the event, please email teachportsmouth@portsmouthcc.gov.uk by Friday 20 October 2023. Year 6 Big City Read 2024 - save the date! |
|
|
The next Year 6 Big City Read is provisionally planned for Thursday 4 July 2024. We are delighted to announce that the PEP hopes to support the Schools' Library Service by utilising Priority Education Investment Area (PEIA) funding to enable all primary schools to receive a copy of the selected text for each year 6 pupil, with a class set being provided to secondary schools in the city for year 7 students and staff to access.
The success in previous years is clear from feedback and the PEP is keen to build upon this fantastic reading initiative and positive aspect of transition from primary to secondary.

Port's new terminal extension on show at upcoming open day
On Saturday 7 October 2023 from 10am - 4pm, Portsmouth International Port will be opening up its doors once again for a community open day, including their new carbon-neutral terminal extension.
Following the success of the 2022 port open day, the local community, staff and their families are invited to enjoy an array of exhibitions from port partners, interactive stands and behind-the-scenes access to port operations.
Open from 10am – 4pm on Saturday 7 October, the open day will be a chance for the public to experience the port’s innovative net carbon neutral terminal extension, made possible through £11.25m of Levelling Up funding to transform the city’s visitor economy.
Some of the children we care for have had life experiences or have disabilities or complex health needs which require the support of someone who has relevant skills and expertise.
The foster carers who care for these children or young people receive enhanced training, further fees and allowances, as well as our 24/7 support and respite care from other foster carers.
Professions, such as those in the education sector, often provide the vital experience these young people need.
Could you be their champion too?
