School improvement
Community Learning Service |
|
|
Hurry! We have limited availability to deliver Family Learning free of charge to your school communities. These are designed to:
- Recognise that parents/carers are and remain their child's primary educator.
- Support the school curriculum (English and maths).
- Offer parents the background knowledge and confidence to help their children's learning at home and encourage independent learners.
- Enable parents to refresh or extend their own learning through signposting onto courses at The Learning Place which may lead to qualifications as well as improving employability.
|
In addition to our core Family Learning offer, we can also support courses through Multiply funding. In the last year several of our Portsmouth schools have utilised this funding to provide after school maths clubs. Parents were invited to join their children to work together on a variety of maths activities including cooking, arts and crafts and investigating maths websites.
If you would like to chat about funding to develop a bespoke programme to support the maths needs of your families, or to book a Family Learning course both of which can increase parental involvement and promote intergenerational learning, please email Sue.Parkes@portsmouthcc.gov.uk.

Multiplication Tables Check 2023
We have been advised by STA that the MTC service website will only remain open until Friday 29 September 2023. If you have not yet downloaded your results CTF from the MTC service, you will need to do so before it closes.
If you want the Education Information and Performance team to include analysis of your results in the 2023 school profile, you will need to upload your file to SSE. Even if you are not planning to send your file to us, we would recommend downloading it from the MTC service for your own records, while you are still able to do so.
Please note, the results file from the MTC service and the KS2 results file from Primary Assessment Gateway have the same naming convention (both are called 851XXXX_KS2_851XXXX_001.xml, where XXXX is your school's establishment number). If you try to save both files in the same folder, your computer won't know that they are different files and might try to replace one file with the other. Where possible, we would recommend making sure you save the MTC file and the KS2 file in separate folders to ensure that you don't overwrite one with the other, and to make it easier for you to identify which file is which.
For further information, please email: education.informationservices@portsmouthcc.gov.uk.
Recycle Week 2023 – Join The Big Recycling Hunt!
Recycle Week 2023 will take place between 16-22 October 2023. This year’s theme - The Big Recycling Hunt - focuses on “missed capture”: the items that can be recycled but are commonly missed in the home.
This year Recycle Week is celebrating its 20th anniversary and will be inspiring children, families and whole communities to get involved. The campaign will have two distinct elements: firstly for schools – encouraging the country’s children to partake in fun activities throughout Recycle Week, plus a focus on local authorities, partners and brands to share the central message.
Primary schools in England and Northern Ireland should sign up for The Action Pack to receive all the latest information and details of how you can get your school to take part.
