I don't know how many times we can start a message with 'It's been a particularly challenging year…' but it seems very apt to do so yet again! The cost of living crisis on the back of Covid has been particularly hard on the already disadvantaged and your work is more challenging than ever. I don't need to rehearse the demands made of you with rising costs, needs and recruitment and retention issues.
Yet, as always, Portsmouth schools rise to the challenge, work together, are creative, are supportive of each other as well as the children and families that you serve.
There is not a week that goes by when I don't see, experience and hear about fantastic achievements that are happening in the city's schools. Many thanks for all the invitations to share many of these with you and a huge thank you to all of you for what you do week in, week out.
There are some great things in the pipeline for the next academic year, but in the very short term I wish you all a well deserved break, whatever that looks like to you.
With thanks, Suzy
Councillor Suzy Horton Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education
