Not long now until the school summer holidays and while some of us are looking forward to having some time off, it's important to bear in mind that the 6 week break can be a struggle for families. Now is a good time to think about any families at your setting who may need additional support with money, food, activities, parenting etc during the holidays. We have pulled together a list of organisations and information for you to share with your families to help them through the summer…
Useful money saving tips, healthy recipes, support for yourself and families, food, housing, check benefits and to find work. Low cost or free activities for children of all ages including under 5's.
PYC Play Youth & Community is open all year round. Information for activities in Portsmouth for children of all ages, including splash parks, adventure playgrounds, community centres and other agency's timetables of their events. Younger children can attend if supervised by an adult over 18.
HAF Fun Pompey is running from 22 July - 27 August during the summer holidays. There is a centralised booking system for all HAF projects from age 5 - 16 years old. Family days are for the whole family including under 5's. Free to children on benefit related free meals. Cost attached to those who are not in receipt.
The Lead Professional for under 5s is either the Health Visitor or Family Nurse. They will provide parenting support directly. Where there is no Lead Professional, all requests for parenting support, should be made via the Duty Health Visitor on 0300 123 6629.
The Uniform Share Store helps families across the city by getting children and young people kitted out in their school uniform.
The Home Start website contains information about services and the groups run in term time. This is where Summer Holiday events will also be advertised. These will be stay and play groups for parents/carers with children 0-8 years and will be free, as are all groups.
