Fully funded national professional qualifications (NPQs) |
|
|
Applications are now open for the autumn 2023 cohorts of Education Development Trust’s (EDT) and Best Practice Network (BPN) national professional qualifications.
The Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Southampton and Portsmouth (HISP) Teaching School Hub is your local Teaching School Hub offering high quality professional development opportunities to the full range of the teaching workforce. In addition to offering Appropriate Body Services and delivering the Early Career Framework to support schools in meeting the statutory requirements for the induction of early career teachers, we are a local delivery partner of the fully reformed suite of National Professional Qualifications (NPQs).
NPQs are specialist and leadership professional development qualifications for teachers, school leaders and aspiring school leaders that will support the professional development of your staff and empower them to create positive change in your setting.
NPQs can cost up to £4095 each, so make use of the DfE funding (which has only been confirmed for another year) while it’s available. There is no limit to how many full NPQ scholarships can be awarded to a single school.
If you have any questions or queries regarding NPQs, please contact: npqs@hisptsh.org.
One place remains in Women's World Cup Football Festival! |
|
|
Pompey in the Community (PITC) are looking for one more school to compete in the PITC Women's World Cup Girls Football Festival at Goals on Monday 3 July 2023, 10.30am - 1pm. This six-a-side competition (squads of 10) will be for girls in year 5/6 and be used to promote and celebrate the upcoming FIFA Women's World Cup being held in July and August in Australia and New Zealand. We will have special guest appearances from famous faces within the women's game, prizes, medals and each school will be assigned a country taking part in the world cup to represent on the day.
Please get in touch with Premier League Primary Stars coordinator, Sam Cleare, on sam.cleare@pompeyitc.org.uk if you wish to take up this place. We understand that this date is a year 6-7 transition day for many, so teams of just year 5 girls are more than welcome!

Teach Portsmouth Awards 2023 shortlist revealed |
|
|
With less than a month to go until the Teach Portsmouth Awards, the shortlist has been announced in 11 award categories. The event will return to Portsmouth Guildhall on Thursday 29 June 2023, as over 200 education professionals gather to celebrate the achievements of fellow colleagues. The awards recognise those who have gone above and beyond for children and young people in early years, primary, secondary, and post-16 settings.
In April, a group of education professionals met to review the supporting statements from nominators to decide on a shortlist and overall winner for each category. This latest announcement marks another important milestone before the winners are announced at the awards ceremony.

Swift nest boxes
Swifts are iconic summer visitors from Africa. Swifts like to nest in holes in buildings, returning to the same nest site year after year, but many nest sites are lost when roofs are renovated. These beautiful and charismatic birds have declined across Hampshire and the UK by approximately 65% over the past 25 years. They continue to decline at approximately 5% per year.
But we can stop and reverse this decline. We can achieve this by conserving existing nest sites and by providing nest sites on existing and new buildings. Nest boxes on school buildings would provide excellent eco projects and cameras could potentially be fitted once used.
Hampshire Swifts can provide nest boxes and advise on suitable fixing areas.
Please contact Dave Warner of Hampshire Swifts at birdman.dave70@gmail.com for nest box enquiries or visit the Hampshire Swifts website.

Face-to-face multi-agency network locality meeting
Two face-to-face multi-agency network locality meetings (MATS) in partnership with HAF Fun Pompey are being held instead of the usual virtual MAT meetings. These will take place from 9.20am to 11.30am on the following dates:
-
Tuesday 13 June 2023 - Kings Church for central and south localities
-
Wednesday 21 June 2023 - Paulsgrove Community Centre for north locality
Come and join us for a morning to consider how we support our families to survive the summer. As many of us know, the summer period including the school holidays can be a difficult time. When you also add to that the financial pressure of the cost of living and the fact that many of our families are drastically impacted by poverty, surviving the summer takes on a whole new meaning.
We will have our usual updates from Health, Police, Family Support and Safeguarding with speakers from the Hive, Cost of Living Hub, HAF and Play and Youth. We will have information from food banks and other relevant organisations. This will help us to have a good overview of what support is available for our families over the summer period. There will be stalls from HAF providers and other youth services with information that you can share with the children and families you work with.
The meeting will run from 9.20am to 11.30am to enable updates, guest speakers and a brunch and networking opportunity. We would appreciate your support to encourage colleagues to attend and pass on this valuable information.
Please email EarlySupportReferralPanel@portsmouthcc.gov.uk with any questions.
Days are incredibly varied…
Full-time sole foster carer Rachel's days are incredibly varied caring for three unaccompanied children seeking asylum.
Foster Portsmouth caught up with Rachel during Ramadan, "Any other time of year, the boys are up early and eager to get to their places of education. Right now though, the boys are sleeping most of the day. As they can't eat or drink, it can be a struggle to be up during sunlight hours."
Rachel continued that in the evenings, "We'll all cook together… and play marble games, a favourite pastime of theirs, as well as other simple games. My older two go to the gym late at night, and I then spend my time doing housework or relaxing."
Rachel has described caring for unaccompanied children seeking asylum as, “The best thing I’ve ever done. It’s been fantastic!”
