R;pplefest will take place on Saturday 12 August 2023 at St John's Church, Forton Road, in Hampshire. The Girls' Network - school programmes |
The Girls' Network is an award-winning charity that inspires and empowers girls aged 14-19 from the least advantaged communities, by connecting them with a 1:1 mentor and a network of professional role models who are women. Our year-long mentoring programme has a proven track record of having a transformational impact on girls’ confidence, motivation, skills and aspirations. We are already running successful programmes at a number of schools in Portsmouth, and now want to reach more girls.
If you would like The Girls’ Network to come to your school, please contact Rebecca Jewitt at Rebecca.Jewitt@thegirlsnetwork.org.uk.

City leaders hail education recruitment event a success |
Councillor Suzy Horton, Mike Stoneman and Natalie Sheppard welcomed exhibitors to the Teach Portsmouth Jobs and Opportunities Fair at Portsmouth Guildhall on Monday 22 May. The event brought together schools, colleges, training providers and charities to promote a range of options for careers in the classroom under one roof.
More than 200 people from across the city learnt about support and site vacancies in early years, primary, secondary and post-16 settings. Delegates were able to speak with exhibitors, watch short presentations and sign up to taster sessions with participating schools.
Natalie Sheppard, director of education at Thinking Schools Academy Trust said:
"It was fantastic to be among partners at the event that shared a vision on making Portsmouth a city where people want to live, learn and work. Working in a school is hugely rewarding, as you help to inspire the next generation to excel in their learning.
"I spoke with a number of attendees and learned about their interests and how we can assist them in finding employment. Over sixty individuals have signed up for our taster sessions at our academies in Portsmouth, and I am confident that these events will produce many more success stories."
The Teach Portsmouth team plan to host other events next year, continuing their work to support the recruitment of support staff in schools and colleges across the city.
