More support for primary computing leaders |
|
|
I’m privileged and delighted to tell you that I’m now in charge of the Leadership Specialism for Primary Computing for the NCCE, nationally! This means I’ll be working for and with any teachers in UK primary schools who are in charge of computing as a curriculum subject.
I’m very excited and passionate about supporting you and would like to start off by asking you, what do you really need? What are your areas for development in your subject knowledge? Leadership skills? Classroom teaching?
If you’ve got five minutes, I’d be grateful if you could complete a 14 question survey, letting me know the best ways I can support you in your leadership role.
Thanks so much! Phil Wickins
Help us make the Teach Portsmouth Jobs and Opportunities Fair a success |
|
|
The Teach Portsmouth team would like your help in attracting parents/carers to attend a recruitment fair at Portsmouth Guildhall on Monday 22 May 2023 from 10am to 2pm. The event welcomes schools, academies and colleges to showcase support and site vacancies in the city. Training providers will also be promoting apprenticeships and short courses to boost qualifications.
We have almost confirmed all exhibitors but we now need your help to promote the event to parents/carers who are looking for opportunities in Portsmouth. From teaching assistants to administrative staff, working in a school or college provides flexible opportunities for parents/carers who might want a job that works around them.
If you are able to share a social media post or place text inside an email newsletter, we would appreciate it. You can download a word document that contains text and images you can use below.

Year 4 Club Author Day |
|
|
Pompey in the Community are organising a Club Author Day on Wednesday 7 June 2023, 10am - 2.30pm at Victory Lounge at Fratton Park. We have been chosen by the Premier League as one of only 10 clubs across the country to do so. It will be held in the Victory Lounge at Fratton Park with around 100 year 4 pupils from across the city in attendance and both morning and afternoon will consist of workshops around reading, writing and poetry.
Already confirmed for the afternoon workshop is Dan Freedman (author of the Jamie Johnson books) who will be delivering an hour-long session for the pupils and the National Literacy Trust will be providing a free copy of his new book to all children in attendance, before having a signing and Q&A afterwards. We also have poets, authors, local reading services and our own Portsmouth FC inflatable football goal (for some outdoor activity!) as workshops in the morning for the pupils to participate in a carousel of activities.
We would look to have 10x Y4 pupils from each school in attendance. Preferably ones who have a love or at least some interest in reading and/or poetry.
If this is something you would be able to attend, please contact Sam Cleare at Pompey in the Community asap as places will be allotted on a first come, first served basis - sam.cleare@pompeyitc.org.uk.

Everyday numeracy assemblies and class sessions from charity National Numeracy |
|
|
Wednesday 17 May 2023 is National Numeracy Day.
National Numeracy is an independent charity established in 2012 to help raise low levels of numeracy among both adults and children and promote the importance of everyday maths skills. Our Numeracy Volunteers programme gets children thinking about maths in the real world.
Volunteers from the corporate world go into schools to share their experiences through our ‘My Maths Story’ assembly and our ‘Maths in the Real World’ teacher led classroom session. It’s a great way of raising the profile of maths in your school and helping children see why they learn it.
Currently these sessions are available to schools in Nottingham, London, Portsmouth, Havant and Gosport. More information is on our website here, to request an assembly and/or class session for your school please complete this form.
Visit the National Numeracy website for more information about other National Numeracy Day activities. This includes ideas and printable materials, information about our fantastic School Number Heroes competition, a celebrity lesson starter video with activities and games and resources to help all groups feel good about maths, with support for staff and parents.
