April is Month of the Military Child (#MotMC) |
|
|
The MOD’s overall theme for this year is Friends Near and Far. Schools will be sent information about activities they can run and they hope families will engage with their schools to promote events and suggest ideas for activities. They are also looking for schools with the most original and engaging activities to celebrate service children and as before hope they can share this with the #MotMC tag. Activities included MOD welfare teams across the country last year and they hope this continues again. Friday 28 April 2023 is a Wear Purple Day in schools across the UK. The SSCE Cymru website holds a range of free resources and ideas that may be of interest.
Never Such Innocence are running a competition again. Last year, winners had their work displayed at MOD Main Building in Whitehall and visited Parliament as part of their prize: they are hoping for something just as special this year. The competition will run from 1-30 April 2023 and the winners will be announced by 15 May 2023. All entrants will receive a personalised certificate of participation.
Please keep in touch with the NFF via their social media channels for updates on #MotMC.

Save the date! Exhibit at the Teach Portsmouth Jobs and Opportunities Fair 2023 |
|
|
Do you have a range of non-teaching roles you'd like to promote to a local audience?
Building on the recent success of Teach Portsmouth's 'become a teaching assistant' event, the team are now broadening their remit to support the recruitment of all non-teaching roles in schools and colleges.
The Teach Portsmouth Jobs and Opportunities Fair brings together adult education providers, schools, colleges, and academies to Portsmouth Guildhall on Monday 22 May 2023 from 9am - 2pm to promote non-teaching vacancies and share information and advice on employment and training.
We would welcome interest from schools, colleges and academies who would like to exhibit at the event to promote non-teaching vacancies, volunteering opportunities and inspire people to consider careers in education across the city.

Free year 5 & 6 Move and Learn project |
|
|
This project is totally free to schools and underpinned by the unique Joy of Moving methodology. Move and Learn is targeted at children aged 9 and 10 – a key milestone in a child’s development – and is designed to appeal to every child in some way. Consisting of 9 hours of education over six weeks, which is broken down into 45 minutes of classroom learning followed by 45 minutes physical activity.
In the classroom, the children will learn about the importance of physical activity, how to eat a balanced diet and lead an active lifestyle while engaging in specially designed games and activities within PE, to help children to develop in four major areas: physical fitness, cognition and creativity, life skills, and motor coordination.
We are seeing the results from taking this approach. Children respond with huge positivity, telling us that they have a better understanding of why it’s important to be active and to eat a balanced and varied diet. They are also more motivated to stay active.
The Move and Learn project is aimed at inspiring children 9-10 years old of all abilities to move through play. We know that it’s important to get this age range moving, as data from Sport England shows that 53% of children from year groups 5-6 do not get active for 60 minutes every day. The Move and Learn project has been developed in partnership with the English Football League Trust (EFL Trust).

Information about the services currently on offer is available to download and share: a version for professionals which details some of the referral process, and a version for parents which provides a broader overview of the service. Please keep this in mind when distributing the offer to others.
Posters detailing the current discussion groups for May to June and June and July are available to print and share with parents, encouraging them to book on if they wish to.

Free training course: Identifying musical talent and potential
Thursday 27 April 2023 (9am - 12pm) at the Music Hub in Paulsgrove
The training will be provided by Awards for Young Musicians (AYM) and helps music teachers to develop useful tools to identify the musical potential of their pupils and help support it.
The training invites music leaders to take part in some familiar musical games, which are then deconstructed to explore what they are really telling us about the young people we work with.
The training is supported by film resources made in four settings (primary, secondary, special school and a young carers group), which highlight the identification of musical potential in a range of young people, along with a range of additional take away resources.
If you would like to attend please use the online form to sign up.
Places are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis.
