Survey: LGBTQ+ services and community experience
|
|
|
The LGBTQ+ team within Portsmouth City Council's Children, Family & Education department are talking to various groups within Portsmouth to find out:
- What they think about the current services available to children and young people within the LGBTQ+ community
- What support or services they would like to see introduced or expanded
- How we can improve communication and links with the whole LGBTQ+ community in Portsmouth
We'd really appreciate if you were able to disseminate to your networks including young people, families, professionals and anyone where this would be of benefit.
Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey.
If you have any questions or queries regarding the survey please email us at lgbtyoungpeople@portsmouthcc.gov.uk.

Mental health training for staff working with children and young people
Hundreds of staff working with children in Portsmouth will be trained on how to spot the signs that a young person might need support with their mental health.
Training will be based around emotional health which includes:
- How to speak to children and young people about mental health concerns, and what to say
- How staff can help and when they should ask for more specialist support
- How to recognise signs of anxiety, low self-esteem and loss of social confidence
|
The aim is for staff to receive the same basic training in emotional health, similar to how everyone is trained in safeguarding. It isn't designed to ask people to do more than they can or should in their role, it's intended to complement existing skills and help staff understand what to look for, what to say and where to go for additional help if needed.
