Report Remove: tool to help young people report images and videos online |
|
|
For a child or young person, having a sexual image or video of themselves shared online can be a distressing situation. This can be difficult for parents and carers too, but there are ways you can support a child. If they’re under 18, they can use Report Remove.
Report Remove is a tool that allows young people to report an image or video shared online, to see if it’s possible to get it taken down. Provided by Childline and IWF, it keeps the young person informed at each stage of their report, and provides further support where necessary.
Young Carers in School (YCiS) - The Children's Society and Carers Trust |
|
|
The Young Carers in School website has recently been updated and is now much simpler and easy to navigate. A PowerPoint overview has been created to support professionals accessing the site.
The website contains a wealth of information and practical ideas to support schools to raise awareness of young carers generally and identify and support their young carers effectively. They are also looking into the possibility of adding a search function in the near future, which should make it even easier to find what you're looking for.
Your school will currently be in the process of, or will have completed, your spring school census return. Please reflect on the numbers of young carers who have been identified on your school census this year. Estimates suggest that there are between two or three young carers in every class in every school in the UK. Are these numbers reflected in your school's calculations? If not, it means that it's highly likely that there are lots of young carers in your school who are currently unidentified and potentially unsupported.
The YCiS guide, together with support from Portsmouth Young Carers Service (PYCS) (youngcarers@portsmouthcc.gov.uk) can help ensure that:
- More young carers in Portsmouth are identified, feel valued and supported.
- All school communities in the city are informed about young carers and the amazing support that they provide within their families.

Three top tips for nominating your superstar colleagues
The Teach Portsmouth team are excited to share their top tips with you to help nominate your superstar colleagues. With three new award categories, the governor's award, progress award and early years and childcare award, there are more ways to recognise school and college staff than ever before.
To help you manage nominating, the team have put together three top tips that should make things much easier. Don't forget, a full list of the categories can be found here.
1. Delegate nominating to an appointed team member We understand nominating staff can take time and we encourage senior leaders to appoint a member of their team who can support this activity throughout the process. This will include your initial online submission all the way through to telling colleagues they've been shortlisted.
2. New to nominating? Watch our video on writing a supporting statement If you haven't written a supporting statement before, a webinar on that topic has been added to the Teach Portsmouth website. Hosted by Frances Soul, independent chairperson, Portsmouth Education Partnership, Frances led the shortlisting panel last year for the awards, providing essential insight into what the shortlisting panel look for in nominations. The video provides top tops on evidencing work and showcasing the impact your colleagues have made.
3. Download the Word template to draft your submission All entries are submitted online using a form on the Teach Portsmouth website. We recommend using the downloadable Word template to draft your submission as the form does not save as you go. Once you've drafted your submission, copy and paste the wording into the form.
Online nominations close on Friday 3 March. Get ready to nominate your colleagues today!

Marking Race Equality Week
Foster Portsmouth is marking Race Equality Week (6-12 February) by celebrating the vital contribution of our foster carers and all the children in our care from the black, Asian and minority ethnic community.
We're also taking the opportunity to highlight the national shortage of foster carers and our need for more with the skills and experience to help children develop a positive sense of their own identity. We welcome all enquiries about fostering regardless of age, gender, faith, ethnicity, sexuality, marital, residential or work status.
Foster carer Tamara's advice to anyone considering becoming a foster carer is, "Do it! You are providing a young person with a secure base as they make their way in the world."
