Urgent Safety alert issued for baby self-feeding products (December 2022).The Office for Product Safety and standards is urging the public to stop using these products immediately and dispose of them safely.

Baby self-feeding products are designed to enable babies to bottle feed with little to no assistance from a caregiver. This creates a risk of serious harm or death from:

  • choking on the feed
  • aspiration pneumonia

Using self-feeding products is also inconsistent with NHS guidance in relation to safe bottle feeding. Please share with parents/carers and ensure you and your practitioners/assistants follow the NHS guidance for safe bottle feeding.

SENT ON BEHALF OF STUART MCDOWELL, COMMISSIONING PROJECT MANAGER, INTEGRATED CHILDREN'S COMMISSIONING TEAM, NHS PORTSMOUTH CLINICAL COMMISSIONING GROUP AND PORTSMOUTH CITY COUNCIL

Portsmouth have been chosen by Health Education England as a pilot area for the design and development of a new emotional health training programme that is designed to reach the wider children’s workforce.

The Anna Freud Centre, Charlie Waller Trust, and National Children’s Bureau are developing the training which will help all workers who come into contact with children receive the same basic training in emotional health, much as we skill everyone in how to safeguard children. The training isn’t designed to ask staff to do more than they can or should within their role, it’s intended to help them know what to look for, what to say and where to go for additional help or onward support and care when needed.

The first phase of this pilot is for the training to be co produced with the workforce. It's essential we know what you need, what your challenges are and how to support staff. This is where we need your support with encouraging staff to complete the following survey which can be accessed here.

Please note that the survey will close on Monday 30 January and we hope to receive as many responses as possible to help shape the training programme.

Thanks in advance for your support and we'll keep you up to date with developments as the pilot progresses.
