Young carers on the school census |
|
|
The Young Carers Alliance and Carers Trust have created an FAQ document featuring questions about young carers on the school census which have been asked by schools and young carer services, and responses from the Department for Education.
Additionally, here is some information that the Portsmouth Young Carers Service sent out in December that will support your school to complete the young carers section of the census correctly. For full details please refer to December's email.
- Young carers do not have to be registered with our service to be included on the school census.
- There are two different markers for the young carers you are aware of in your school. One highlights if school or young person has identified that they are a young carer and the second indicates if the parent or guardian has informed school.
- Young carer information from the DfE website
We continue to work together with schools to support the needs of individual young carers with their and their parent/guardian's consent.
If you have any further questions or you would like us to work with you to help raise the profile of young carers in your school and the development of your young carers provision, please do not hesitate to get in touch by emailing youngcarers@portsmouthcc.gov.uk.

Over 15 Portsmouth primary schools have been supported so far, don’t miss out!
"I am writing to feedback about the fantastic meeting with Phil last week. I am the subject computing lead and after a recent Ofsted inspection need advice regarding content, resources and software alongside evidencing. Phil has really motivated and inspired me to look into more exciting options to add to our teaching alongside our existing map. He has kindly shared some excellent ideas with us which we certainly will bring next year's computing teaching. I found Phil very knowledgeable and easy to talk to and whilst he suggested some changes he always took our existing curriculum onboard as well. I certainly think that Phil would be a very valuable asset to all primary schools in taking their computing provision to the next level.”
