Meetings will take place every half term and will be an opportunity for you to network and collaborate with other PSHE leads, share your frustrations and hopes for the subject and receive expert guidance.
The network will be led by award winning sex educator Jo Morgan who will empower you to meet the needs of your pupils and plan and deliver lessons with maximum impact.
Contact PSHE@portsmouthcc.gov.uk if you or a colleague would like to be added to the distribution list.

Outdoor learning and PE update from Hampshire Outdoors |
|
|
The first spring 2023 edition of the Outdoor Learning (including Trailblazer) and PE newsletter is now available. Despite spring seeming a long way off, the theme of this newsletter is gardening and growing. It’s time to plan what you will grow in containers or a school garden to help your children get the benefits of growing things!
As well as signposting you to other outdoor resources, we hope you find the newsletter useful in helping to get you and your class outside for learning across the curriculum. Please feel free to distribute it to other colleagues.
All previous editions of the newsletter and Trailblazer outdoor learning resources can be found on the Trailblazer website.
Meet other practitioners If you want to meet other practitioners working in the outdoors, the next Hampshire Outdoor Learning Group will be hosted at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens on Friday 24 March 2023 from 3.30pm to 6pm. Please RSVP here.
Meet at the Visitor and Education Pavilion, Sir Harold Hillier Gardens, Jermyns Lane, Ampfield, Romsey, Hampshire, SO51 0QA.
Free literary Teach Meet - the power of storytelling |
|
|
As part of the work of the PEP Early Language and Literacy Development Group, Portsmouth Grammar School are hosting a free literary Teach Meet session on Wednesday 19 April 2023 from 5pm to 7pm.
Following an initial input from Chris Connaughton (writer, actor, director, and educationalist) on the power of storytelling, this informal gathering of like-minded literacy practitioners offers the opportunity to share ideas in five-minute bite-sized slots.
There is no cost to participants, parking is available on the school site (accessible through the main gates on the high street) and refreshments are being provided. All welcome.
If you would like to share your pedagogical expertise on something that is working well in your English lessons, contact Bryony at b.hart@pgs.org.uk. We are looking for presentations from all key stages of no more than five minutes long.
Cost of living - Making every contact count training
Following the success of the sessions before Christmas, the council is offering a further round of training for those working directly with residents who might spot signs that people are struggling with the cost of living. The training is designed to ensure these staff have the information they need to ask questions and signpost families to sources of information and advice.
The sessions, which are online and last an hour, will be taking place on the following dates and can be booked using the Eventbrite links:
Play therapist apprenticeship opportunity - level 7 (equal to master's degree)
The play therapist apprenticeship is due to start in March 2023 and is a fantastic way to support children and gain a recognised qualification.
The programme will work to improve children’s mental health, emotional wellbeing, learning capabilities and social relationships. The aim is to enable their full potential by using therapeutic play and a wide range of media and resources. Play therapy is used both as a long-term intervention for healing chronic issues and as a short term one to prevent slight/mild problems developing into more serious ones.
The qualification fee of £20,000 is fully funded by the local authority's apprenticeship levy. If you are an academy and have used your levy funds and therefore need extra funding, PCC can transfer the funds through the transfer programme, please just ask.
Entry requirements Typically, hold a level 6 qualification with a minimum of two years’ experience of working with children, parents and or carers or level 5 through required prior learning (RPL) minimum of 5 years’ experience of working with children.
If you would like to take this opportunity to develop your skills please contact either apprenticeships@portsmouthcc.gov.uk or sandra.wilkie2@portsmouthcc.gov.uk and I will arrange for a detailed meeting to discuss the commitment and contents of the programme.

Reducing parental conflict workshop
Parental conflict can be a normal part of parenting and not all conflict is harmful. However, where it is frequent, intense and poorly resolved it can impact outcomes for children and parents. Whilst attending this two-hour workshop, workers will:
- Gain a greater understanding of parental conflict
- Explore factors and the impact on the family
- Look at ways parents can communicate constructively
The workshop has been designed for professionals to increase knowledge and skills around parental conflict. Professionals can use the workshop as a stand-alone workshop or can go on to attend the two-day RPC training.
We are able to come to your workplace in Portsmouth and provide the workshop for your team. Please email Leigh.Tyler@portsmouthcc.gov.uk to arrange a workshop.
