Stop Domestic Abuse workshops for secondary schools |
|
|
As of September 2020, relationships, and sex education - including domestic abuse - is compulsory for secondary schools. It's important to educate young people about domestic abuse to ensure they know the signs and where to get help if needed.
The Safer Portsmouth Partnership delivers an annual campaign to schools - ‘Is This Love?’ - to encourage discussion around healthy and unhealthy behaviours in relationships.
For 2023, Stop Domestic Abuse will be delivering workshops for year groups 8, 9, 10 and 11. Accompanying lesson plan resources will also be provided and there will be the opportunity for confidential contact for pupils wishing to speak to someone post-assembly.
This will be delivered from 20 February 2023, until 28 March 2023.
Please contact rachel.macey@stopdomesticabuse.uk with the date and time which works best for your school. The team will require a minimum of 45 minutes for the presentation.

Citywide STEM offer for British Science Week March 2023 |
|
|
We are very excited to announce that this year we will be providing a citywide STEM offer during British Science Week for schools across the city thanks to the work of the STEM working party, which includes Alex and Nick from UTC, Laura from STEMunity and Christian from Teach Computing.
The theme for British Science Week is all about connections and breaking stereotypes, so we are using this as a way to provide unique opportunities whilst raising the profile of STEM and creating memorable experiences for as many children across the city as possible.
Details and locations are currently being finalised, however we would like to give you this opportunity to pre-register your interest and secure your spaces for the events below:
-
Monday 13 March 2023 - Year 5 pupil premium girls
-
Tuesday 14 March 2023 - EYFS and KS1 girls and boys
-
Wednesday 15 March 2023 - Year 8 and 9 girls
-
Thursday 16 March 2023 - No citywide events at the moment
-
Friday 17 March 2023 - Year 5 pupil premium boys
Spaces will be allocated on first come, first served basis and the maximum number of children from each school for each event will be five (who must be accompanied by an adult with a DBS).
Where possible, we will try and give schools their first choice of events so that all schools have an opportunity to experience the offer and you can pre-register your interest here.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact Gemma Gwilliam (ggwilliam@copnorprimary.co.uk).
Share your experiences and preferences to help shape PSHE support in 2022/23 |
|
|
A short survey is being conducted to explore how quality improvement can be facilitated across more schools in Portsmouth. PSHE/RSHE leads are asked to spend 10-15 minutes completing the survey to the best of your knowledge.
It is important to note that the survey is intended to capture insights to shape the facilitation that is available to schools within 2022/23 and onwards in relation to personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education.
