We can provide comprehensive support and unlock access to funding, data and training. We provide a property search facility and can introduce your business to others.  We support and organise a range of business events and deliver government funded programmes to help business with recruitment, skills development and job placements.

Nominate the best for a Shaping Portsmouth Award

Each year at the Shaping Portsmouth Annual Conference, Shaping Portsmouth seek to recognise some of Portsmouth's best and brightest through the Shaping Portsmouth Awards.

The theme of the 2023 Conference is Transforming Portsmouth Together, so Shaping Portsmouth is looking to recognise those organisations across business, education, or community, who have made an outstanding contribution in this way. Whether it's a progressive approach to learning, the use of innovative technology, or changing lives through volunteering, nominations are wanted.

UK's largest creative freelancer survey

Solent LEP creative freelancer

Creative UK launches its UK-wide survey into freelancing, as part of the Redesigning Freelancing initiative. The survey, open to creative organisations as well as freelancers, will provide evidence on working conditions that will help to spearhead industry-wide change.

The initiative aims to reach creative communities across the UK and highlight the challenges that freelancers face locally and nationally.

Free SME support sessions

SME support

Every week the University of Portsmouth delivers free SME support sessions to any business.

A maximum of 5 SMEs can register every Friday and the Faculty of Business and Law will reach into its broad base of entrepreneurs, industry practitioners, academics and business owners to bring collaborative advice and business support.

All a business needs to do is register, pose your business question or dilemma and the team from the university will meet you online, Friday at 11am. Then it's time for lunch!

Port plugs in tugs to cut carbon

SMS Towage tugs at Portico

Portsmouth International Port has worked with their towage provider, SMS Towage, to provide a shore power connection for their tugs, saving 131 tonnes of carbon per annum.

The port, owned by Portsmouth City Council, has ambitious targets to reach net-zero by 2030 and become emission free by 2050. 

Elly Howe, environmental and sustainability coordinator at Portsmouth International Port said:

“This is an important step forward for the port and is just the start of our shore power journey.  We want to be able to provide shore power on all our berths in the coming years ready for cruise vessels and Brittany Ferries’ new hybrid ferries.”

SMS Towage is the UK’s largest independent towage company, providing comprehensive harbour towage, offshore towage renewable energy support and other specialist shipping project work. They have been providing towage services at Portsmouth International Port since 2017.

The Teach Portsmouth Awards is a completely not-for-profit event celebrating the achievements of teachers, learning support assistants and head teachers in the city's schools and colleges

To help make this event a reality, we rely on local organisations to sponsor an award category. Sponsorship packages start from £1,500 + VAT . Each package offers specific rewards that give organisations the chance to promote their products and services.

The Teach Portsmouth Awards recognises top teaching talent in the city, ensuring children and young people have the support they need in the classroom.  The awards event will return to Portsmouth Guildhall on Thursday 29 June.

Supporting people through Aspirations Week

An appeal has been launched for Portsmouth's businesses and entrepreneurs to get involved with Aspirations Week 2023 (16 - 20 January )  

Businesses are invited to provide support, guidance or coaching to the city's people to learn new skills, achieve qualifications, progress in their career, or get back into work after a period of absence.
