Primary computing support |
|
|
For primary computing support, including half a day of fully funded guidance and assistance from a subject matter expert, help with curriculum overview design, subject knowledge and bespoke staff training, please get in touch with Phil Wickins at p.wickins@stem.org.uk.
Over 15 Portsmouth primary schools have been supported so far, don’t miss out!
"I am the subject computing lead and after a recent Ofsted inspection need advice regarding content, resources and software alongside evidencing. Phil has really motivated and inspired me to look into more exciting options to add to our teaching alongside our existing map. He has kindly shared some excellent ideas with us which we certainly will bring to next year's computing teaching. I found Phil very knowledgeable and easy to talk to and whilst he suggested some changes he always took our existing curriculum onboard as well. I am currently revamping our computing overview and progression documents to reflect the knowledge that Phil has shared with us. I certainly think that Phil would be a very valuable asset to all primary schools in taking their computing provision to the next level.”

A one-page 'quick guide' is also available to support sharing of key information, for example with parents and carers, governors and trustees and wider school staff.
These resources are provided free of charge to support understanding about the research basis for RSE.

Cost of living crisis
In order to support residents during the cost of living crisis, Portsmouth City Council has pulled together a wide range of helpful and relevant information into a single Cost of Living Hub on the council website. For those who may not have access to the internet or would prefer to speak to someone, residents can call the cost of living helpline on 023 9284 1047 to find out more about the support available to them.
We would be grateful for the support of schools and education settings in publicising this information to the families they are working with, and sharing the information with colleagues who may find it useful.
Vouchers for families of children eligible for free school meals It has been agreed that Portsmouth families of children eligible for free school meals will receive a single voucher worth £70 per child this winter. Schools and other education settings will be asked to make these vouchers available to families during December. The £70 voucher will be formally announced to families later this month, at which point we will also send more information about the arrangements for voucher distribution. This will be the only voucher payment made between now and 31 March 2023. At this stage no further funding has been announced by the government for future voucher schemes.

Near miss reporting
Anyone who's experienced a 'near miss', which made them feel unsafe when walking or cycling around the city, can report it online.
It's important that everyone can safely use pavements and paths, so please help us spread the word amongst parents, carers and school staff. We're continually improving walking and cycling routes to make them safer, and the feedback we receive through the online forms is crucial in helping us identify hotspots so we can investigate ways to prevent incidents from happening.
People who experience a near miss will need to tell us where and when the incident took place and describe the vehicles that were involved.
