Welcome to the Early Years SEN updates bulletin for the Autumn term.
An updated version for this year is available on the Traded Services website under the 'resources' tab, or you can view and download a copy below.
Please see this year's Early Years SEND audit here.
These should be completed and returned by 3 October 2022. We will be prioritising and responding as soon as we can after the deadline. Do contact eyinclusion@portsmouthcc.gov.uk if you have any queries.
As well as our usual offer of support we will be hosting a drop-in day at the Civic Offices in December for you to come and discuss any SEN concerns with the early years inclusion team. Further details to follow.
Now is the best time of year to submit EHC assessment requests for children with complex and significant needs who will be school age next September (2023). Due to severe pressures on the services involved there may be some delays in the process this year so please do submit any requests as soon as you can, especially if you are considering a request for specialist provision.
Please refer to the Portsmouth profile of need to guide you in your decision. Scores of 3 or 4 indicate that a request is appropriate and of course partnership with parents through the process is essential.
If a child might need to be considered for special provision for school (Year R) then the request must be in as soon as possible as panels to allocate those places start in January. You must make it very clear on the paperwork that the parent would like their child to be considered for this.
The Early Years EHC assessment request paperwork and the profile of need can be found on the Traded Services website under the 'resources' tab or the Portsmouth Local Offer website.
This year's meetings will be held virtually on Microsoft Teams as follows:
Tuesday 15 November 2022 - 10.00am - 12.00pm
Tuesday 21 March 2023 - 10.00am - 12.00pm
Tuesday 13 June 2023 - 10.00am - 12.00pm
There's still time for SENCos or any early years practitioners interested in the role to book on to the Early Years SENCo Accreditation.
The Level 3 Early Years SENCo Accreditation course starts on Thursday 22 September and will be delivered over 12 full day sessions at Landport Community Centre. The cost for this is £850.00.
Level 2 SEND Accredited course starts on Wednesday 2 November and will be delivered over three sessions, (2 November, 16 November and 30 November), 9.30am - 4.00pm at the Training and Learning Centre, Portsmouth Academy. The cost for this is £180.00.
Over the next few months we will hold a series of practical sessions where you can develop your knowledge and confidence in implementing specific interventions for children with SEN. These will be delivered jointly with Portage.
