Keeping Children Safe in Education (KSCiE) translations |
|
|
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. That's why all school staff must read and understand Part 1 of the DfE's statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education.
As many schools employ speakers of English as an Additional Language (EAL) who are not required to have a high level of English for their role, it can be challenging to ensure that everyone understands the full meaning and principles of the guidance.
As part of LGfL's commitment to helping schools keep children safe, they have commissioned translations of KCSIE Part 1 and Annex A into 13 community languages. These are available as free, open-access documents for the benefit of all schools.

Share your experiences and preferences to help shape PSHE support in 2022/23 |
|
|
A short survey is being conducted to explore how quality improvement can be facilitated across more schools in Portsmouth. PSHE/RSHE leads are asked to spend 10-15 minutes completing the survey to the best of your knowledge.
It is important to note that the survey is intended to capture insights to shape the facilitation that is available to schools within 2022/23 and onwards in relation to personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education.
Can you help inspire local residents to become teaching assistants? |
|
|
After the success of Teach Portsmouth's teaching assistant information event in June, three new dates for future events have been announced: Tuesday 1 November 2022*, Tuesday 28 February 2023 and Tuesday 11 July 2023. All events will take place between 10am and 1pm at Portsmouth Central Library.
We are asking schools in Portsmouth to lend us their staff for one of our sessions. There are three one-hour sessions on each of the dates. Each one hour session will see individuals talk broadly about their role, what inspires them and provide advice for those in attendance. A short question and answer session is also held, giving local residents the chance to find out more about the role.
Teach Portsmouth would welcome interest from schools who are able to support one of these events or sessions by lending a member of their team. We are looking for pastoral, specialist or supervisory support staff who can help showcase the career progression element of the role.
*The date of the first event was incorrectly listed as Tuesday 8 November in last week's issue of the PEP bulletin. The correct date is Tuesday 1 November.
If you are able to help us, please email teachportsmouth@portsmouthcc.gov.uk.

Last chance to sign up for Primary Council of Portsmouth Students |
|
|
The Primary Council of Portsmouth Students (Primary CoPS) is the citywide voice of young people in primary schools, bringing together representatives from a wide range of school councils.
It is a programme that empowers and excites the imagination of the youngest leaders in our city, whilst helping schools to share best practice, learn from each other and feel part of a citywide student voice ecosystem.
As we rebuild from the pandemic, we want to make Primary CoPS even more accessible and inclusive, enabling every primary school in the city to take part, by:
- Making it completely free for all primary schools to take part
- Focusing the programme around two key events - one large primary CoPS summit in November and Student Voice Day in June/July
- Enabling schools to bring more students - with up to 10 student representatives per school (these can be split across the year groups)
We are able to make this happen thanks to the support of Unloc’s corporate partners, the ongoing support of Portsmouth City Council and the hard work of our fundraising team.
Please take a look at the information leaflet. Schools can sign up now by completing a short online form, identifying their school link person, and confirming their commitment to the programme. Applications close on Friday 16 September 2022.

School funding opportunities
The latest Grants 4 Schools newsletter provides a useful summary of current funding opportunities for schools in a wide range of areas, including for projects ranging from those linked to climate change and the environment, to support for science teaching, to funding to upgrade sports facilities. Bidding for funding can of course be time consuming with no guarantee of success, but for schools that are planning projects in any of the areas that are supported by these external grants it is worth taking a look.
If helpful, Alison.Critchley@portsmouthcc.gov.uk is happy to take a look at draft bids before they are submitted and give feedback from an external perspective.
