New profiling tool to help identify children and young people with neuro-developmental needs |
A new tool to support a child or young person showing signs of neuro-developmental needs is being launched in Portsmouth, following a successful trial with 50 families between March 2021 to April 2022.
The Neurodiversity (ND) Profiling Tool assesses nine developmental strands of a child or young person aged 0-19. It will offer an insight into a child or young person's needs and suggest types of strategies to help manage those needs in different areas of a life.
From 1 July 2022, the ND Profiling Tool will replace the current referral process to request a ND clinical assessment. Instead, trained professionals will be required to complete the ND Profiling Tool in the first instance.
If you work with families and would like to complete the training in order to support families in completing the ND Profiling Tool, please send your full name and job title to sharedmailbox.sendstrategy@portsmouthcc.gov.uk and you will receive the training details.
Mental health training questionnaire |
Colleagues in Hampshire have designed a questionnaire to collect data on the present skillset of the workforce supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people. The data collected will enable us to target training to any identified gaps.
It has been designed to collect information from a broad group of people working in health, primary care, social care, public health, housing and VCSE. This list is not exhaustive, but if you believe you work with people experiencing mental health challenges please complete the questionnaire.
All responses will be kept anonymous under GDPR and Data Protection Act (2018). The survey will close on Tuesday 2 August 2022.
If you have any questions or comments about the research, please email Jemma Jones (Skills for Health) at jemma.jones@wdtrust.org.uk. Thank you in advance for investing your time in completing the questionnaire.

The open access consultation events are an opportunity to directly influence system improvement. Between June and November 2022, the Tackling Child Exploitation (TCE) Programme is asking you to contribute your insight and expertise to help develop practice principles for child exploitation and extra-familial harm.
The next consultation for those in education settings and in education-focused roles will be held on Wednesday 13 July 2022, 3.45pm - 5.15pm.
Background From 2019 – March 2022, the Tackling Child Exploitation (TCE) Programme worked with over 80 local areas across England to improve strategic responses to child exploitation and extra-familial harm, through bespoke support projects with local areas, action research, communities of practice and learning sets, and specially commissioned resources.
This work is now being built on with the development of a set of practice principles for all professionals working to safeguard and support young people experiencing, or at risk of, child exploitation and extra-familial harm.
National plan for music education |
The national plan for music education (NPME), published 25 June 2022, sets out the government’s vision to enable all children and young people in England to:
- Learn to sing, play an instrument and create music together
- Have the opportunity to progress their musical interests and talents, including professionally
The plan sets out how this vision will be achieved by 2030, emphasising the importance of partnerships between education settings, music hubs, music organisations working with young people and the music industry. It builds on the model music curriculum and the original national plan for music education, published in 2011.
The NPME is non-statutory with a vision "to enable all children and young people to learn to sing, play an instrument and create music together, and have the opportunity to progress their musical interests and talents, including professionally."
