Portsmouth Education Partnership is pleased to invite senior leaders to the 2022 summer conference on Friday 1 July 2022 at the Village Hotel, Portsmouth. This will provide an opportunity to look back on the key priorities and celebrate the successes.
We will be looking forward to the objectives set for 2023, engaging in workshops, and this year will be joining a live webinar with Ross Welford, author of When We Got Lost in Dreamland.
The Big Conversation: young people's views on crime |
|
|
Young people aged 14–25 are invited to give their views on hate crime, substance misuse and safety on the streets, as part of the Big Conversation, run by the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Youth Commission. The results will help decide police priorities.
To take part, fill in a three-minute online survey by 30 September 2022.
Free wheelchair skills workshop |
|
|
Go Kids Go are running a free wheelchair skills session on Sunday 26 June 2022, 12pm - 3pm at Admiral Lord Nelson School. The workshop is open to all young wheelchair users aged 2-18 in Portsmouth and will teach skills such as coping with slopes and rough ground, back wheel balancing, road safety and emergency evacuation techniques.
There will also be games such as wheelchair basketball and a chance to try out wheelchair dance. Extra chairs are provided so parents and siblings can get involved and join in the games. Whilst the objectives are serious the workshops are good fun!
Young people who attend will need to be able to self-propel to gain fully from the workshop, however there is often a mixed range of abilities and everyone gains some new skills.
A flyer to share with young people is available to download here.
To book a free place, email emily@gokidsgo.org.uk.
African dance and music project |
|
|
This exciting, fully-funded, project provides the opportunity for students in years 5 and 6 to explore the music, dance and culture of Africa through the creation and performance of a new piece of music influenced by the rhythms and music of Senegal and Uganda. Students playing instruments will find this opportunity particularly inspiring as parts will be written for them whatever their level of learning or their instrument.
There will be workshops in school provided by staff from Portsmouth Grammar School (PGS) and a performance for the whole school by a professional Senegalese dancer. Watch this video for a flavour of what your students could experience.
A final performance and workshop with all students involved will be held on the afternoon of Friday 1 July 2022 in the Quad at PGS.
The project is being filmed in line with funding conditions so full media consent will be required for those students taking part. There is some funding for transport for schools unable to walk to PGS.
This is a partnership project led by Portsmouth Grammar School, supported by Portsmouth Music Hub and funded through the Cultural Education Partnership and Artswork. Schools working towards Arts Mark will find this opportunity very useful.
We envisage this opportunity will be very popular and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. To apply, contact Gareth Hemmings at g.hemmings@pgs.org.uk.
Last chance to complete Teach Portsmouth's annual recruitment and retention survey |
|
|
Thank you to the schools that have completed Teach Portsmouth's annual survey. The information being collected will help Teach Portsmouth gain a better understanding of how we can help Portsmouth schools recruit teachers, as well as informing future teacher recruitment and retention campaigns.
To ensure we develop Teach Portsmouth to meet the needs of our schools, it is vital that as many schools as possible respond to the survey. Please complete and return only one survey per school.
If you haven't already completed the survey for your school, this is your last chance to take part as the deadline is Friday 17 June 2022.
If you have any questions, please contact teachportsmouth@portsmouthcc.gov.uk.

Private fostering
Many people have to make changes to their living circumstances resulting in a child living away from home for a period of time. This could be due to a family breakdown, a parent working or studying away or possibly a child from outside the UK living with relatives or friends.
These children may have needed to be looked after by someone who is not their parent or a close relative. If they are likely to be there for more than 28 days, this could be a private fostering arrangement and the local authority legally need to be informed.
