Inclusion

Portsmouth Helps Ukraine

Action icon

Portsmouth Helps Ukraine is a group working in tandem with Portsmouth City Council, Portsmouth Diocese and a number of other agencies to collect, sort and distribute donated items as requested by the Ukrainian embassy in London.

The team were very pleased to visit Manor Infant School and Nursery this week to collect their donations. These donations will be leaving Portsmouth at the end of May to be taken by van to refugees from the Ukrainian war.

The group would like to encourage all schools to join in the Portsmouth scheme to send humanitarian aid to Ukraine as it looks like the war there is likely to continue for some time.

Once again thank you Manor Infant School and Nursery.

This opportunity is open to the child of any parent or guardian who is serving or is a veteran of the Royal Navy.

First-class training opportunities for primary languages in Portsmouth

Information

Organisers of the ALL Portsmouth Primary Hub, Marie Allen and Liz Lord aim to provide relevant and up-to-date training sessions for languages practitioners in the city and beyond.

At the March meeting of the Hub, Marie delivered a session previously included in the nationally attended Association for Language Learning (ALL) Primary Languages Conference in November 2022 as part of the 'An Ambitious Primary Languages Curriculum' programme. At both events, Marie began by looking at the key principles of assessment in languages and possibly more importantly, how to achieve them. The aim of the session was to share ideas for assessment that could be adapted or replicated in other settings.

Praise regarding the session came from practitioners across the education spectrum and included: “You spoke brilliantly this afternoon. Many thanks. Assessment is something I'd like to look at with my students. Is it possible to have a copy of your I can statements? “

Following on from this, Marie has since been asked to deliver the same session for the South West Institute for Teaching, Primary Languages Professional Community Network.

This high quality training continues with the next meeting on Wednesday 15 June 2022 when experienced and inspirational primary languages practitioner, Ellie Chettle Cully will lead attendees through visual stimuli and multi-sensory approaches to scaffolding and grammar strategies, and provide us with practical advice and tried-and-tested ideas for supporting all pupils to access the curriculum and make progress in the primary languages classroom.
