Castle Rock!
In the week commencing 7 March, we will start taking delivery of 140,000t of rock.
The rock will form the primary sea defence in the area around Southsea Castle. It will arrive from Norway from March to September 2022 on a weekly basis, averaging 5500t per week! We’ve installed vibration monitors in the area in readiness. The photo shows rock delivery in the coastal defences area around Long Curtain Moat in 2021. Read more

Bandstanding
On Bandstand Field we stripped top soil and laid crushed stone for our compound area.
We will store the top soil and replace it when it’s time to restore the field back to its original condition. Also at Frontage 4, we’ve started site investigations, with trial holes being dug along existing promenade. Read the full weekly update.

Eu-nice work!
A big shout out to our team members who worked throughout Storm Eunice.
The weather really tested our newly installed parapet units at Frontage 1 (Long Curtain Moat) and it was great to see how effective they were at keeping the water back. There was some damage along Frontage 4 (Southsea Castle) but only to those parts of the ageing defences that are due to be removed soon.

Memories...
We continue to seek details for some owners of memorial benches around Southsea Castle.
The benches have been removed from the seafront in this area and are stored securely, with plans being considered for a temporary memorial. We are still missing some contact details, so if you are aware of someone who owns a bench but has not heard from us yet, please let us know by emailing southseacoastalscheme@portsmouthcc.gov.uk
