Early Years Pre-school Practitioners and Year R teachers have worked together in Portsmouth to create 10 top tips for Starting School.

These priorities in learning have been agreed as key skills that would really benefit children to have in place, as they start school. Keep your eyes peeled for the launch of this campaign on the 5th July 2021 to support practitioners and parents to help children develop these skills throughout the summer.

Family stories in schools and early years settings: Research by the University of Portsmouth

book today

This nationwide research project is led by Dr Emma Maynard at the University of Portsmouth. The project is investigating the experiences of schools and settings in working with families where health and social care needs may be impacting the learning, behaviour, wellbeing and or safety of children.

The team is conducting interviews and focus groups during June and early July if you would like to contribute your experience as a teacher with any level of experience, head teacher, pastoral lead, early years practitioner or EY leader. The team are particularly keen to involve more secondary colleagues.

Please email jennifer.lewis-vidler@port.ac.uk to make arrangements.

The research team also invites schools and settings to join them to hear and debate their early findings. This is a free online event on Monday 12 July, 4-6pm. Sign up to attend the event here.
