The Early Years Team would love to hear how you are planning to take part with your children.
Send us any photos or ideas that you have by Monday 8th March and we will put your setting into a draw to win a small selection of picture books.
Stuck for ideas on how to celebrate?
Why not try some of these?
- Take part in the 'Masked Reader' - encourage your practitioners to dress up or wear a mask and share a story. Can the children guess who the mysterious reader is?
- Challenge children to find their favourite book at home or in the setting and tell a friend all about it
- Ask parents to share a story with their child at home and send in photos
- Visit http://www.makingbooks.com/ to find out more about creating and making your own books with the children
Any images with children in will need a PCC consent form completed. Please click here to download the form.
To place your entry, consent forms or if you have any questions please email natalie.oliver@portsmouthcc.gov.uk
We will also share your ideas and the fun you had on World Book Day in a bulletin coming out soon & on the Early Years Professional Social Media. Please be sure to get those consent forms to us if you are happy for your settings images to be featured.
Here are some ideas to inspire your families this week suggested by the School Library Service. Children can:
- Draw their favourite book cover and stick it in their window for others to spot on their daily walks
- Stand their favourite book in their window
- Make a window display using their favourite books or favourite authors
- Dress up as their favourite character using things they can find at home
- Read a story with their family
Encourage the children to see if they can spot the window displays while they're out on your daily walks that week. Please take photos of your creations or activities - and encourage those at home to do the same - and share them during this week beginning on social media with
#WorldBookDay #Portsmouth.
Tag us on Facebook @PortsmouthEarlyYearsProfessional and we'll share them too!
