Transforming Cities Fund

Welcome

Welcome to our first South East Hampshire Rapid Transit newsletter. It may have been a while since you signed up to receive news about the project, but now funding has been received we are ready to share some exciting updates with you.

In September, after resubmitting our bid to the Department for Transport, we were successfully awarded just under £56 million from the Transforming Cities Fund (TCF). We are delighted that part of this investment will fund the next phase of South East Hampshire Rapid Transit, while supporting a number of active travel schemes across the region.

Below you can find out what's happening in Portsmouth, south east Hampshire and in Ryde. We will continue to bring you all the latest news as TCF projects progress between now and March 2023, as well as any plans for future phases of South East Hampshire Rapid Transit.

aerial - portsmouth champions

Portsmouth City Council is focussing the £26 million TCF investment on bus priority measures across the city to reduce journey times and improve reliability, making travelling by bus an even more attractive option.

Projects address congestion pinch points on key bus routes along Lake Road, Southampton Road, in the city centre (north and south), at Rudmore roundabout and Portsbridge area junctions. Three walking and cycling schemes funded by TCF support Portsmouth's draft Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan and will improve connections to the city centre.
