 Green light given
You may remember from our last update that we were due to attend a council cabinet meeting and this was to set out the pathway for Tipner West's planning submission. Well, it now gives us great pleasure to share the good news with you!
Following a summary of all the work undertaken to date, official approval from councillors was given for the new work required to be carried out in the coming months.
Megan Carter, Senior Regeneration Manager said, "This means that the scheme has now gone further than ever before. This is thanks to the pace, positivity and dedication of all involved and is proof that people are more than ever looking to the future when considering developments as bold and ambitious as Tipner West.
We know there is still much more to be done but the team is confident that we have the expertise necessary to take us through the next important phase of the scheme."
In order for the next phase of work to continue, the scheme now requires around £8m from the £48m City Deal; a central government grant awarded to the council back in 2015. The funds are mainly needed to prepare for the necessary planning applications.
The design and environmental team are currently working on a revised plan called the concept masterplan and this is following feedback from the citywide public roadshow, at the beginning of the year. It also takes into account feedback from other stakeholder groups that we have been engaging with.
We have already carried out many environmental surveys over the last couple of years but we are now formally engaging with the statutory environmental bodies. This is necessary so that we know the scope of our assessments support our planning application.
We are also looking at marketing and branding for Tipner West so that we can propose some ideas to you at the public consultation in January 2021.
A public consultation on the proposals will follow in January 2021. We hope as many of you as possible will be able to join us, so we can update you on our plans, answer your questions and collect all of your feedback.
We will of course keep everyone updated on exactly how and when you can participate, so keep an eye out for our next newsletter. There will also be information in the media, social media and on our website.
