We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended our citywide roadshow and especially to those who took the time to give us their feedback. Whether people came to ask questions, offer suggestions, voice concerns or just find out more information, it was good to see how many people across the city have taken an interest in our incredible plans for Tipner West. We were also delighted to see children getting involved in the activities provided. Encouraging young people to share their ideas about Tipner West is so important to what we are trying to achieve for future generations.
Having spoken with nearly 300 residents and businesses, over 5 weeks and across 8 locations, we have a better idea of how people feel about this development. The most popular topics of feedback were:
- transport
- environmental issues
- infrastructure
- public resources and activities
Overall the feedback we have received has been very positive and we are looking forward to presenting this back to you, later this year.
Testing site for coronavirus
You may have heard that land in Tipner West is temporarily being used as a coronavirus testing site for front-line key workers. We are really pleased that we can help the government and NHS by letting them use the land but want to reassure you it doesn't change any of our plans for Tipner West and isn't expected to disrupt the local area in any way. Regional testing sites are a crucial part of the UK government's emergency response to the coronavirus outbreak.
Survey work
You may have seen that we are supporting the work of CITiZAN (Coastal and Intertidal Zone Archaeological Network) which is a community-led project of MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology). CITiZAN will be surveying the shoreline of Horsea Island so we can better understand the history of the site. We will keep you updated!
Education
We will potentially be working with local schools to include the Tipner West programme in the curriculum. We are looking to develop teaching materials for children aged 5-11 years old, with a view to getting input and engagement from young people while we are still in the design phase of the project. The content will be based upon the principles of the project, such as sustainable communities and living in an innovative environment.

Next steps
Despite the challenges we are all facing in the current situation, the project team is working hard remotely to keep everything on schedule. We will keep you updated when we have more information!
