Pamodzi Creatives Inspirational Women of Portsmouth Awards
The Portsmouth Teaching School Alliance was delighted to be invited to the Pamodzi Creatives celebration of Inspirational Women of Portsmouth on 6th March. Not only was the evening a fantastic showcase of Portsmouth’s inspiring and talented women from all sectors of society, it was a huge honour for us as three of our members were nominated for the Education Award.
The award was won by one of them – Laura Watford SLE, who was nominated for the STEM work she has grown throughout the city with the Teaching School, from Science networks to support from the Royal Academy of Engineering going straight into Portsmouth schools. Laura was extra impressive as she brought along her week-old baby Millicent who was surely the youngest inspiration in the room! Sarah Hilditch SLE and Teaching School Director Sophie Venables were also nominated for the award and we are extremely proud of all three of them.

World Autism Awareness Week: 30 March – 5 April 2020
Autism Hampshire is a local charity which supports people on the autism spectrum in Hampshire. Each year, as part of World Autism Awareness Week we run our Autism Heroes campaign, which asks people to nominate their Autism Hero; whether that be a famous person or someone you admire on the autism spectrum, or maybe a parent or carer who supports someone on the autism spectrum.
To help raise the profile of this campaign and to raise awareness and understanding of autism we are inviting schools in the Hampshire area to participate in a Dress Down Day with the theme of Superheroes.
The date of the dress down day is Thursday 2 April which is World Autism Day, although if another date is more convenient for your school that would be ok!
The Value of Interests
Janet Myers, (Educational Psychologist at Portsmouth City Council) in partnership with Pierre and his family, writes about a young man who, as his mum describes, experienced severe communication and behaviour difficulties as a young child, and who has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
