Preparing for life and work beyond school

Hampshire Careers Partnership CEIAG Conference

EBP South and the Hampshire Careers Partnership are organising a conference for career professionals and educators. This career conference features keynote speakers who will be bringing forward perspectives from across the educational and industrial sectors. There will also be a range of practical workshops that aim to deliver guidance on how to deal with the existing and future challenges for careers.

During the careers conference we are holding a market place event between 12:45pm to 2pm which gives a platform for colleges to showcase their courses, apprenticeships, and the opportunities they provide for young people and career professionals. For businesses and training providers it is an opportunity to raise awareness and understanding of their apprenticeship options and career pathways in their organisation to career professionals from schools, colleges and universities.

To secure your place, please visit this link and complete the online booking form by 25th January 2020For more information about prices and booking please contact Donna Nelson on

Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)

Developing the Portsmouth Travel Assistance Offer

This month we will be starting our annual review of the way in which we provide travel assistance to children and young people with SEND to enable them to get to school or college.

This is an important area, and we know that a child's experience of their journey to school can make a significant difference to their learning at school and overall well-being. We therefore plan to work closely with parents, children and young people, and schools in exploring what new options might be offered in certain circumstances.

In some cases travel by taxi or minibus will continue to be the only realistic option for a child to get safely to school. However, we hear from young people themselves that they would like to develop the skills and confidence to travel to school or college independently, using public transport. We also know that separate journeys have a significant environmental cost, and add to the congestion in Portsmouth. And, in some instances, parents might be able to make better use of part of the budget that is currently spent on a taxi to make their own arrangements to get their child to school.

The very best ideas are likely to come from users of the service themselves, their parents, and from others who see at close quarters how the service currently works, for example drivers and passenger assistants and staff in schools that work with the transport service. If you have thoughts about how the service could be delivered differently within the resources available please email by Friday 14 February 2020.

LA updates

January School Census - Thursday 16th January 2020

LA deadline is Thursday 23rd January. Please ensure that you meet this deadline to enable the detailed post census data checking reports to be created and sent back to you. These reports will help you to validate your data to ensure its accuracy. If you cannot submit on time please contact us ASAP. Academies that purchase EIS SLA, please send a copy of your school census to the LA via SSE and inform us when it is there.

All schools must have an approved return on COLLECT by Wednesday 12th February. Please be aware that DfE may still require your school to make changes to your census after this date.

A familiarisation blade is currently available for schools to check that the required data is being output correctly from the MIS to COLLECT, and if any validation errors or queries are generated against their data. This blade will close at 4pm on Friday 10th January.
