Governor training courses

We were delighted to welcome 12 new Portsmouth governors to an induction session on 17 September. The training was very well received, with governors valuing information about education in Portsmouth, an introduction to the role of governor, and the chance to network with other new governors.

Our October training offer for governors includes courses on finance (maintained schools only), governor responsibilities for Looked After Children, safeguarding, and inclusion. We will be repeating the induction session in January 2020. For more information or to book see the traded services website or email schoolgovernor@portsmouthcc.gov.uk.

Prejudicial Language and Behaviour Toolkit

Next month sees the launch of the Prejudicial Language and Behaviour toolkit and resource suite, taking place in Ashburton Hall, Hampshire County Council, EII Court, Winchester, SO23 8TF on October 15th, from 2-5pm.

This launch event is for Hampshire, Portsmouth, Southampton and Isle of Wight schools to support them in recognising, recording and responding to prejudicial language and behaviour in their school communities. The event will allow attendees:

  • To familiarise themselves with the new pan-Hampshire tracking tool and other resources
  • Clarification of what constitutes prejudicial language/behaviour
  • Opportunities to explore cross boundary networking
  • An introduction to support, training and resources available

This free event is aimed at head teachers and pastoral leads within schools.

The Blue Apple Theatre will be performing their latest play, titled “See No Evil” which aims to raise awareness of hate crime and the exploitation of people with learning disabilities.

The event is now fully suscribed but, as there are currently no schools from Portsmouth attending, the team have agreed to set up a new booking link on Eventbrite, just for Portsmouth schools to be able to attend.

October School Census - Thursday 3rd October 2019

LA deadline is Thursday 10th October. Please ensure that you meet this deadline to enable the detailed post census data checking reports to be created and sent back to you. These reports will help you to validate your data to ensure its accuracy. If you cannot submit on time please contact us ASAP. Academies that purchase EIS SLA, please send a copy of your school census to the LA via SSE and inform us when it is there.

All schools must have an approved return on COLLECT by Wednesday 30th October. After this time, even though the final date has passed, DfE may still require your school to make changes to your census.

A familiarisation blade is currently available for schools to check that the required data is being output correctly from the MIS to COLLECT, and if any validation errors or queries are generated against their data. This blade will close at 4pm on Friday 27th September.
