Positive feedback on Health Visiting Service

Image

Whilst attending a Locality Network Meeting a Health Visitor was pleased to receive some really positive feedback on their service. While reporting on the roll out of the new ECHO programme, a Nursery Manager noted that they have noticed an improvement in the communication between Health Visitors and the nursery. They noted that within two weeks of a child starting at the Nursery, the Health Visitor had already contacted them and commenced joint working.

This is really great news to hear and a timely reminder of the changes Health Visiting are making to their delivery and the opportunities they present for greater integration between them and early years providers!

Health Visiting Service update

Universal Offer

Portsmouth Health Visiting service has recently introduced some changes in the way the service is being delivered. All families will continue to receive the five mandated contacts as part of the Healthy Child Programme from pre-birth to 2 - 2.5 years from the Health Visiting Team.

The first two contacts, one in the antenatal period and one in the first few weeks of baby’s life will continue to be offered at family homes. The following three contacts, at 6 - 8 weeks of age, 1 year and 2 - 2.5 years will be offered as an appointment at a local Family Hub in the city.

Currently demand for these appointments is high and we are working to adapt our invite letter to sign post families where they have no concerns about their child’s development to our new website which links to the Wessex Healthier together website which is full of helpful information for both parents and professionals.

The service has also launched a new text messaging service called Solent Pulse. Parents can use text service Monday-Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm. Download the poster here.

Another useful digital resource for parents is the Baby Buddy free app that guides you through pregnancy, birth, parenting and beyond.

As Early Years providers, please do not hesitate to contact the Health Visiting Service if you have any concerns about a child's development or you feel extra support is required.

The new contact number for the Health Visiting Service is 0300 123 6629.

The Health Visiting Team will continue to work with families outside of these contacts if there is a need for extra help and support at any time from pre-birth to 5 years with help and advice around areas such as sleep, behaviour, toileting, healthy eating etc.

Targeted Offer

The service has also commenced delivery of an enhanced service called ECHO (Enhanced Child Health Visiting Offer) to all families who need extra support and help as part of the wider city 0 - 19 Early Help and Prevention Team.

ECHO is a bespoke, locally developed, evidence based programme of intensive home visiting of up to 30 contacts, delivered from pregnancy until approx. 3 years of age.

The aim of the project is to build relationships with families to enable high challenge and high support to improve the life chances of children in Portsmouth.

Interventions will be delivered in an intensive way to support and enable families to undertake the change required.

The Health Visitor will be the family’s Lead Professional and will draw a Team Around the Worker as required.

As Early Years providers, if you feel a child would benefit from this service please either speak directly to a Health Visitor or you can refer to the 0 - 5 Early Help and Prevention Team via MASH.
