DWP failed to adequately communicate changes to Women’s State Pension age
We’ve investigated complaints that, since 1995, DWP has failed to provide accurate, adequate and timely information about areas of State Pension reform.
In stage one of our investigation we found failings in the way DWP communicated changes to women’s State Pension age.
We’ve now published a report combining stage two and three of our investigation. This considers the injustice resulting from these failings and what can be done to set them right.
We’ve found that DWP’s handling of the changes to State Pension Age meant that some women lost opportunities to make informed decisions about their finances.
When we find that people have suffered injustice because of failings, we usually make recommendations to set things right. It’s rare that an organisation does not accept and act on these.
Because of what DWP has told us during this investigation, we have reason to believe it will not take steps to put things right.
Given the urgent need for justice, we are presenting our report to Parliament. We are asking Parliament to intervene and identify a way to provide appropriate remedy. We think this will be the quickest way to put things right.
