Devolution and knife crime topics raised at PFCC Brentwood Public Meeting

Brentwood public meeting 2025

The PFCC’s role in planned devolution for Essex and further collaboration with schools to tackle knife crime were some of the topics raised by the public at the Brentwood public meeting held on Wednesday 23rd April.

Attendees at the meeting heard how all crime in Brentwood has decreased by 9% in the 12 months to March 2025 with Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) incidents down by 5.7% and Burglary incidents down 7.4% in the same period.

The meeting was the latest event in the PFCC engagement schedule which, during the past year, has directly consulted over 5,000 Essex residents on community safety matters.

MP and PFCC meet with store staff to further collaborate in tackling retail crime

Essex Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Roger Hirst last week joined Richard Holden, MP for Basildon and Billericay, at the Asda store in the Eastgate centre, Basildon to discuss further ways to tackle retail crime.

They were joined by Asda Area Director for Kent & Essex Adam Shinebroom along with Store Manager Chris Cokill and his staff, including security officers and community champions, who outlined the challenges the store was facing.

Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex, said: “Here in Essex, we are collaborating with all our community safety and business partners in innovative ways to reduce retail crime.
