£1m of PFCC Safer Streets funding helping to drive down crime and anti-social behaviour in Colchester   

Crime and anti-social behaviour in Colchester is being tackled by £1million of PFCC Safer Streets funding granted since 2022. 

A Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner spokesperson said: “Since 2022, every project bid meeting fund criteria received by the PFCC from the Colchester Community Safety Partnership (CSP) has been awarded Safer Streets funding. The Colchester Community Safety Partnership includes Colchester City Council, Essex Police, Fire & Rescue Service, Essex County Council, National Probation service and the NHS.   

“This amounts to £1,064,048 in Safer Streets funding from the PFCC being awarded to Colchester since 2022, with most of the current projects being delivered into spring and summer of 2025.” 

“On top of this Safer Streets funding over £136k has been granted to Colchester Community Safety Partnership (CSP) from the PFCC for ASB Hotspot Patrol funding, car park barriers and CCTV and almost £58k of £319,00 has been granted to local Colchester community safety projects from the PFCC’s Community Safety Development fund. A further £10k was awarded to Colchester CSP for its Against Modern Slavery Partnership work.”

Southend: Seven arrests during Live Facial Recognition Deployment 

Two Essex Police Live Facial Recognition (LFR) vans were in Southend between Thursday (19 September) and Sunday (22 September) as part of the response to incident of violence on Sunday 15 September, where four people were arrested.

The PFCC supported Essex Police with £300k of funding to purchase the LFR equipment, which is proving an effective policing tool as over the four days there were a total of 14 positive alerts which led to seven people arrested.

Residents of Maldon district invited to annual PFCC Public Meeting

Residents of Maldon district invited to PFCC Public Meeting

The Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC) for Essex is inviting residents from across the Maldon district to attend a public meeting to learn more about crime and community safety in their area. 

The meeting will take place on Monday 7th October 2024, from 7pm to 8pm in Southminster Memorial Hall, High Street, Southminster, CMO 7AY. 

PFCC Roger Hirst will be joined by panel members from Essex Police, Essex Fire and Rescue Service and Maldon District Council. 

This event is open to all residents and businesses of Maldon district, all residents are welcome to attend. 

“Being able to hear directly from local communities is essential,” said Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner.  

“This meeting is a valuable opportunity to understand your concerns and ensure we are working together to make Maldon a safer district.”
