£250k available from the PFCC to help support community safety projects across Essex
Voluntary and community safety groups from across Essex are invited to apply for a funding boost from the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex’s Community Safety Development Fund.
The £250,000 fund offers grants of up to £20,000 for community projects that help to prevent and tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in Essex, as well as supporting vulnerable people.
Applications to the fund have to demonstrate that they will make a positive impact on at least one of the Police and Crime Plan or Fire and Rescue Plan priorities which can be found on our website.
Closing date for applications is Friday March 1st 2024
Investment to create safer streets and secure communities in Epping Forest viewed by PFCC and Council Leaders
Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex, this morning joined Cllr Chris Whitbread, Leader of Epping Forest District Council, to view investments and action taken to improve community safety in the district.
In Epping Forest district The Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner has invested £338,000 of Safer Streets funding in the Ninefields area of Waltham Abbey, supporting targeted community projects to tackle neighbourhood crime as well as reducing violence against women and girls. This project was supported by £169,000 of match funding from community partners including Epping Forest District Council.
A further £103,523 of ASB Hotspot funding has also been invested in Epping Forest district in The Broadway, Debden which has seen 592 extra hours of high-visibility Essex Police patrols, 555 hours of extra Community Safety patrols and further outreach support.
This has resulted in year-on-year figures which show anti-social behaviour in Epping Forest district has decreased by 31.2% and across Essex anti-social behaviour is down 37.6%.
Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex, continued his busy schedule of public meetings when he visited Wickford this week.
Roger was joined by District Commander Chief Insp Daniel McHugh of Essex Police, Jason Gould, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, Basildon Station Manager and Julie Long, Basildon Community Safety Manager.
At the meeting audience members put questions to the panel on a range of issues including wildlife crime, youth engagement in Wickford and the wider Basildon district and police visibility across the district.
The next PFCC public meeting will be held in Castle Point district at the Council Chamber, Council Offices, Kiln Road, Thundersley, SS7 1TF on Thursday 22nd February, 2024, from 7pm to 8pm.
PFCC welcomes launch of £100K ECC Community Safety Initiative Fund
The Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex has warmly welcomed the announcement of a new £100k Community Safety Initiative Fund by Essex County Council.
Cllr Louise McKinlay, Deputy Leader of Essex County Council, announced the fund while on patrol with Roger Hirst, PFCC for Essex, and the Billericay Street Pastors.
The Community Safety Initiative Fund will allow local groups, charities and Town and Parish Councils to bid for grants from £500 to £2k to help reduce anti-social behaviour (ASB) and fund initiatives to enhance community safety.
Research is being carried out in Essex to better understand hate crime in the county.
The research is being led by the Strategic Hate Crime Partnership (SCHPP) and findings will set the focus and direction for the group going forward.
The survey is available online until 18 February. All residents are invited to take part.
The Strategic Hate Crime Prevention Partnership (SHCPP) brings together voluntary, statutory and council bodies that work to raise reporting of hate crime and deliver preventative measures.
The partnership is looking for the views of people in the county about their own experiences and concerns about hate crime, including online hate.
