Young boxers at Brentwood Boxing Club using new facilities

A community boxing club is expanding, thanks to a £10,000 boost

Brentwood Central Boxing Club has invested in its own boxing ring, trained an extra two coaches, brought in new equipment and seen other staff upgrade their training and safeguarding knowledge.

The Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex (PFCC) has contributed £10,000 to Brentwood Boxing Cub in the form of a crime and disorder reduction grant from the 2022-2023 Community Safety Development Fund.

PFCC Roger Hirst said: “I firmly believe we can make really positive changes in this county by focusing on preventative measures. By giving our young people somewhere to go, somewhere to build relationships with positive role models, to learn new skills and to focus their minds, we are making an investment in crime prevention.

PFCC's £5,000 grant to help Thurrock families with lasting power of attorney

Peace of mind is being offered to families in Thurrock who cannot afford to pay to give a loved one control over their affairs if they were to lose capacity in future.

The Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex (PFCC) has contributed £5,000 to Thurrock Centre for Independent Living in the form of a crime and disorder reduction grant from the 2022-2023 Community Safety Development Fund to help more than 50 vulnerable people to secure their Lasting Power of Attorney for free.

Picture of specially trained officer using Rapid Video Response which allows online reporting of domestic abuse

1000 domestic abuse reports made using video tool

More than 1,000 reports from domestic abuse victims have been taken over video call by specially-trained officers since March 2023, providing stronger evidence for cases of domestic abuse.

A priority of the PFCC is to protect and support victims and survivors of domestic abuse, investing further to strengthen support available.

The process, called Rapid Video Response (RVR), is a victim-focused investigative tool which provides another way for domestic abuse victims to report an incident – without having to come to a police station or have officers visit their home in a marked police car.
