Liam Taylor legacy sees grandmother raise more than £33,000 for bleed-kits

A grieving grandmother has raised more than £33,000 as she devotes her life to preventing other families suffering the same tragic loss as hers.

Nineteen-year-old Liam Taylor was stabbed multiple times outside a pub in Writtle in January 2020 and died instantly.

His grandmother, Julie, set up the Liam Taylor Legacy crowdfunding page and set about providing lifesaving catastrophic bleed kits to as many venues in Essex as possible.

The public-access specialist first aid kits – carried by the Army and air ambulance crews – include items which could save a life, including large “plasters” to seal the most severe stab wounds until help arrives.

Essex firefighters adapt to new hazards in electric vehicle fires

Although still relatively rare, electric vehicles fires present a new technical and safety challenge for fire services in the UK. In response, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service have been learning about electric vehicles to better understand how they need to respond to incidents.

When electric vehicles are involved in fires, over 100 organic chemicals are generated including some toxic gases such as carbon monoxide and hydrogen cyanide – both of which are extremely flammable and can have serious health effects on people.

While worldwide research is continuing into finding new ways to tackle electric vehicle fires, currently there isn’t an established consensus on the best firefighting strategy.

Find out more about how the Fire and Rescue Service is responding to the challenge.
