This week we raised awareness and shared information on the signs of stalking and how to access help if you are being stalked.
Stalking is a pattern of unwanted, fixated and obsessive behaviour which is intrusive and causes fear of violence or serious distress.
Jane Gardner, Deputy Police Fire and Crime Commissioner and Chair of the Southend, Essex and Thurrock Domestic Abuse Board (SETDAB) said: “Stalking is a complex and distressing crime, and together with Essex Police and partners we are working hard to tackle it. This week gives us an ideal opportunity to raise awareness of stalking, look at how it affects people and signpost where people can go for help and support.
“Only by working together can we help people be safe and we are making great progress in helping survivors and educating perpetrators to change their behaviour."

Be Water Aware Week
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service have been raising awareness around water safety as part of Be Water Aware Week.
Tragically, more than 700 people drown in the UK and Ireland every year and many more suffer life-changing injuries. It is important that you are aware of how you can keep yourself and those around you safe.
Whenever you are around water:
STOP and THINK - Look for the dangers, always read the signs
STAY TOGETHER - Never swim alone - always go with friends or family
In an emergency:
CALL 999 - Shout for help and phone 999
FLOAT - If you fall in, float or swim on your back. Throw something that floats to anyone who has fallen in.

Street Safe
If you know of a public place in Essex that makes you feel unsafe, you can have your say anonymously through the StreetSafe website, or you can download the tool via the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store
The data received from this website will go to councils and the police, meaning we can work together on the best solutions for issues in Essex. From this, councils can review whether the area needs more streetlights or CCTV, or our local officers can look at patrol plans and target hotspots.
