Latest news from PFCC Roger Hirst - 10 February 2023
|
The Essex Police, Fire and Crime Panel has approved PFCC Roger Hirst’s budget for policing and fire and rescue services for 2023/2024.
Roger can now:
• Complete the expansion of Essex Police to 3,755 officers • Get more officers trained and visible in our communities • Deliver services that are better value for money • Continue investment in fire and rescue services funding a pay settlement for firefighters and staff
This budget will enable Essex Police to complete its ambitious expansion, increasing officer numbers by 905 and taking the total number of officers in Essex to 3,755, the biggest and strongest in its 182-year history.
It will also allow Essex County Fire and Rescue Service to continue its investment in preventing harm, protecting people and training firefighters. The increase will also fund a pay increase for firefighters and professional support staff equivalent to five per cent this year and four per cent in the year ahead.
A Band D Council Taxpayer will pay an extra £14.94 per year for policing and an extra £4.95 a year for fire and rescue services – a combined increase of £1.67 per month.

Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week 2023
Supporting victims is at the heart of everything we do. For 2022/23, the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner successfully secured £503,000 additional funding from central government and invested this in support for survivors of sexual abuse and domestic violence in Essex. This will mean that we will be able to provide even more help and support for victims and survivors than we currently do. This extra funding will go to organisations such as Synergy rape crisis partnership, The Children’s Society, Wilderness Foundation and specialist domestic abuse charities Safe Steps, Changing Pathways and Next Chapter.
We will continue to work with partners and champion the rights of victims.
It is never too late to get support. Access confidential support from specialists who understand how hard it is to talk about sexual abuse and sexual violence. To find support services to help you, click the button below.
