Bleed control kits donated in memory of Liam Taylor

Bleed Control Kits

Six new bleed control kits have been donated to venues in  the north-west of the county thanks to fundraising by the Liam Taylor Legacy.

Liam’s grandmother, Julie Taylor, visited venues in Saffron Walden, Newport, Thaxted, Stansted Mountfitchet and Hatfield Heath with Uttlesford PCSOs Michael O’Donnell-Smith and Natalie Smith to donate kits and train the recipients in how to treat someone losing blood.

Julie established the fund in memory of her grandson Liam who was fatally stabbed in Writtle in January 2020.

The kits, which cost £104 each, contain gloves, scissors, a foil blanket, a mouthguard for giving CPR, a trauma dressing, a chest seal, a pack bandage, and a tourniquet.

They can be used to treat any type of injury where the victim is bleeding heavily. These kits will make a real difference to Essex communities and could help save a life.

North Avenue Youth Centre Chelmsford

North Avenue Youth Centre Chelmsford

Young people and their parents are being offered professional support in their community to keep safe from modern-day dangers.

Set up in Melbourne, Chelmsford, in 2000, the North Avenue Youth Centre welcomes young people in the area aged eight to 18 – up to age 25 for those with additional needs – in junior, senior and older sessions.

It provides a safe haven for young people to go to instead of hanging around on the streets and potentially falling into trouble or danger.

Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, said: “By collaborating with each other, our common goals are going to be reached far more successfully. No one person or organisation can keep our communities and residents crime-free and safe. By bringing youth workers, young people and parents together in this way, the fight against exploitation on our streets is going to be won.

“Work like this is vital if we are to keep our young people safe and to support our families to live happy and fulfilled lives. That is why we are pleased to fund these projects in this way.”

VVU Knife Crime Survey

VVU Knife Crime in Essex Survey

The Violence and Vulnerability Partnership is keen to understand parental attitudes to knife crime and knife harm across Essex. The partnership has launched a survey asking parents of children aged 10 to 21 for their views on knife crime, the results of which will inform campaign activity and help us understand if the programmes and interventions we currently run are having a positive effect.  If you are a parent of a child / children in this age group and would like to help contribute to making Essex a safer place we would be grateful for your help.

The survey should take no more than ten minutes to complete. Participants have the opportunity to be entered into a prize draw and the closing date for completion is 1 November 2022.
