No Place For Racism

There is no place for racism in our county

Essex Police is reminding residents that racial abuse of any kind is Essex is not acceptable and will be investigated.

Superintendent Richard Melton, Essex Police force lead for Hate Crime, Hostility and Anti-Social Behaviour, said: “We, like many people across Essex, have been horrified by the racial abuse directed at England players Marcus Rashford, Jaydon Sancho and Bukayo Saka after the Euro 2020 final on Sunday.

“Although the result wasn't what we hoped for, it's absolutely no excuse for the appalling behaviour we have seen reported across the country.

“We would like to remind our residents that racial abuse of any kind in Essex is not acceptable and will be investigated

“Everyone has the right to live, work and socialise in Essex without fear of abuse.

“If you have suffered racial abuse or if you have witnessed racial abuse, please report it to us. We will always take it seriously and we will investigate it.

“If you do not want to report your experiences directly to us, or you do not want to give your details, you can also go to www.report-it.org.uk to do so.”

Combating anti social behaviour on our water

The warmer weather sees locals and visitors alike, take advantage of our beautiful waterways and coastlines, whether it’s to relax by the water or take part in sporting activities such as kayaking or paddle boarding, which have rapidly grown in popularity over the past year.

Find out more about how Essex Police's marine unit is tackling antisocial behaviour in coastal areas this summer and the new support the team has thanks to a generous donation from Maldon District Council.

Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex, said: “With more than 350 miles of shore, Essex has the longest coastline of any English county. That fact makes the work of our marine unit invaluable when it comes to keeping people safe as well as preventing and detecting criminal activity on our waterways.

“There have been concerns raised by residents and partners about anti-social behaviour taking place at out coastal resorts and this new addition to the fleet will help officers engage with those responsible and prevent the problems so our waters are a safer place, especially during the busy summer season.”
