Westmorland & Furness Council's Returning Officer has received a valid request to fill the Penrith East Vacancy on Penrith Town Council by holding an election.
This means that should there be more than one candidate nominated, an election will be held on Thursday 27 March 2025 between the hours of 7am and 10pm.
For more information, please visit the Westmorland & Furness Council website.

In February 2024, Penrith Town Council awarded a grant of £1,300 to Stomping Ground to run the Outside Club at Pategill Park which has resulted in a lasting positive impact in the Pategill community.
The Outside Club is aimed at 8–15-year-olds from the Pategill Community and is an inclusive, friendly and accessible outdoor activity session including activities such as building dens, making and creating cool things and playing in Stomping Ground's mud kitchen! The sessions are completely free.
Stomping Ground has recently reported back to the Council that before they started to engage with the young people within the Pategill area, between January 2021 – February 2022, there were 19 Reports of Anti-Social Behaviour incidents made to the police involving youth. Between February 22 – January 25 (a 3 year period) there has been 8 Reports of Anti-Social Behaviour incidents made to the police involving youth. This is an average yearly rate of 2-3 incidents, a reduction of approximately 86%.
This decrease can (in part) be attributed down to the holistic approach taken by Stomping Ground and other services - with the £1,300 grant helping to create a lasting impact in Pategill.
The Council has recently undertaken some repair work to Thacka Beck Field, following damage to the path and fencing alongside the Beck.
A new layer of dusting was added to the path, making it much easier to walk on yet again.
Since its creation in November 2022, the path has been put to great use by residents and visitors alike with an increase of people using the field to get into town, to walk their dogs or to incorporate as part of their daily walking / running routes through the town.
The Council has recently repaired a number of loose fence posts at Fairhill Playing Field Play Area.
This maintenance work ensures the safety of children and families using the play area, reinforcing the Council’s commitment to maintaining high-quality community spaces.
