In August's edition:
The Council has provided a grant of £3,099 to the Penrith Business Improvement District (BID) to contribute towards the town centre greening programme which has brought a splash of colour to the town centre over the summer months!
With the support of the Council grant, the BID has installed decorative planting in the form of square planters, railing baskets, beehive planters and hanging baskets throughout the town centre.
Doug Lawson, Chair of Penrith Town Council & Mayor of Penrith said:
"Although the Summer weather has been a bit drab, the floral displays around the town centre have certainly helped brighten Penrith up this Summer!
"One of the key priorities of the Council's grants scheme is to enhance projects that matter to local communities. From speaking with residents and visitors alike, it is clear to see how much everyone loves these floral displays over the Summer months.
"The BID are a key partner of the Town Council - so it's great to be able to keep working together on projects for the greater benefit of the whole town.
If your organisation has a project you would like us to support over the course of 2024 and into 2025, please call 01768 899 773, email: office@penrithtowncouncil.gov.uk or visit: https://www.penrithtowncouncil.gov.uk/council-finance/grants/

Thank you to everyone who attended our Wild Play Day down at Thacka Beck Field last month- we hope everyone who attended enjoyed their time!
The Wild Play Day was a fantastic community day and it was brilliant to see over 140 young people attend the event - nearly twice as many as last year's event!
A massive thanks goes to Stomping Ground and BlueJam Arts for delivering the day!
BlueJam Arts was a hit with lots of singing, games, percussion and drawing and making. Stomping Ground provided circus skills and bubble play, den building and worked with young people to create mini flags, paints, and tiny wooden creatures using saws, drills and peelers.
The local PSCOs came and spent a couple of hours doing some community engagement. It really was a community day, and brilliant to see some many people enjoying that green space, several people said that they would come back and spend time there again.
The Council funded the Wild Play Day at Thacka Beck Field, ensuring that every child / young person was able to attend the event free of charge.
Penrith Town Council, working with Plug & Play, Eden Valley Artistic Network and the Penrith Arts & Culture group, has funded and arranged for bands / artists to play around Penrith on Saturdays across the whole Summer.
Sounds Around Town showcases the enormous wealth of local talent we have in Penrith (and the surrounding area) and aims to encourage more visitors into the town centre and increase the ‘dwell time’ of those visitors by giving them bands / artists worth sticking around for!
This Saturday we have our final act of the 2024 Summer season - and what a way to round off with Squeezebox at the Cornmarket Bandstand!
Check them out if you're in and around the town centre!
