Brougham Hall Wartime Weekend 2024
Come along and enjoy the displays of military vehicles, wartime displays, period fashions, food and dancing at the Brougham Hall Wartime Weekend 10th to 12th May 2024.
The event commemorates the hall’s part in the war, when it was commandeered by Sir Winston Churchill as home of the 79th Armoured Division for the development of a top secret weapon, the Canal Defence Light.
As well as the living history displays you can enjoy period music from The Bobby Pin-Ups and Rachel Mercer, delicious food, drinks and ice cream from Fell and Bean, and a bar by Black Cat Distillery.
The event is a great outing for the whole family, from young children to the older generation, offering plenty of things for children to see and space for them to play.
Visitors are encouraged to dress up in vintage clothes for the occasion.
The event is organised by the Military Vehicles Trust, who bring a large display of military vehicles for the public to see.
Brougham Hall Wartime Weekend will be open to the public from 10am-4pm on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th May, with school groups visiting on Friday 10th. There is a nominal donation of £5 per adult on the door.
We look forward to seeing you here as we step back in time to the 1940s!
For further updates, please visit the Brougham Hall Wartime Weekend Facebook page.

Plug & Play presents Jack Badcock plus open mic
Singer and guitarist, Jack Badcock is a hugely experienced performer, having toured extensively around the world, in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia, predominantly as frontman and founding member of his multi-award winning, internationally renowned world-folk band 'Dallahan'.
In recent years, between time away on the road, he has focused his time at home in Glasgow on writing his own material and now draws on his performance experience to deliver a solo show of original songs, interpretations of traditional songs, and poetry set to his own music. This material reveals his craft of thoughtful lyrics that explore human history, cosmology, personal experiences and questions about our world all delivered with a musical sensitivity clearly influenced by American folk, funk and soul music as much as traditional music from Britain and Ireland.
Date and time: Sat 5 May 2024, 9:30PM
Venue: Penrith Playhouse Theatre, Auctionmart Ln, Penrith CA11 7JG

Eden Rivers Trust - Community Tree Nursery
Get involved with the Eden River Trust's Community Tree Nursery project!
There are regular sessions at the tree nursery – usually Tuesday afternoons and Friday mornings – for growing native trees from seed or cuttings and looking after all the plants.
The Eden River Trust are still developing the site itself so there is always a bit of digging or building for anyone who likes to flex their muscles and there are also special features to set up to enhance sustainability and support wildlife and community use at the plot.
We’ve worked hard to make the site as accessible as possible and you don’t need any experience or special skills to join in – just come and say hello when we’re there or get in touch with Jenni Payne at volunteers@edenrt.org or call 01768 866788 for more information.
Why not come along for the ride? Perhaps you’ll discover a skill or passion you never knew you had!
