Penrith Town Council have provided a grant of £4,965 to the Penrith BID (BID) to support the annual Penrith Sparkle event (Christmas Light Switch-On).
The Council are pleased to support the BID to deliver Penrith Sparkle, a free and inclusive event which celebrates the switching on of Penrith’s Christmas Lights which have been extensively improved for 2023, covering most of the town centre.
Penrith Sparkle will take place on Saturday 18 November from 2pm and include family friendly entertainment with live bands, a Charity Christmas tractor parade from 5pm, festive stalls, arts & crafts and a Christmas lights switch on at 6pm in the centre of town with a special guest!
|
Doug Lawson, Chair & Mayor of Penrith Town Council said:
"The switch on event is a long-held tradition in Penrith and has heralded the beginning of the Christmas festive period for many generations.
"The Christmas lights help promote Penrith as a great place to visit and live and will improve the attractiveness of Penrith, the event in particular will bring members of the local community together to experience a day of activities, retail opportunities, musical entertainment and traditional festive fun!
"I am glad that the Council have once again been able to support another of the town's key signature events with a grant - and I hope everyone who attends the event enjoys the day!"

Penrith Town Council have provided a grant of £1,000 to Penrith Cricket Club to contribute to the refurbishment of the club's kitchen.
The Cricket Club's kitchen was in dire need of modernisation and refurbishment with old equipment regularly breaking down. This caused significant operational problems - interrupting the club's ability to fulfil bookings for parties, funerals, and events.
The Council's contribution has allowed the club to replace the faulty equipment with newer, more reliable equipment, putting the club on a greater sustainable footing going forward.
On Friday 27 August 2023, Doug Lawson, Chair & Mayor of Penrith Town Council visited the upgraded facilities, and said:
"It was great to visit the upgraded facilities at Penrith Cricket Club - a club at the heart of the local community.
"The grant will go a long way in contributing to Penrith Cricket Club's ability to host events for the local community and improving the sustainability of the club going forward into the future.
"The improved facilities at the Cricket Club is yet another very pleasing example of the council working with the community and it’s great to see the completion of this project.”
|
Andy Hall, Chair of Penrith Cricket Club said:
"On behalf of Penrith Cricket Club, I would like to thank the Mayor Doug Lawson and Penrith Town Council for their support of the kitchen refurbishment project.
"Voluntary organisations like ours rely heavily on funding to make improvements to our facilities and be in a position to offer the local community opportunities to participate in cricket and enjoy our facilities for social events.
"The support of Penrith Town Council and other partnership funders has enabled a total refurbishment of our kitchen and means that our in-house caterer can continue to cater for parties, christenings, funerals, club dinners as well as food for a wide variety of groups within the local community."
The grant was given as part of the Town Council’s grant scheme designed to support local community organisations, charities, Social Enterprises and Community Interest Companies delivering services, projects and events within Penrith.
