Thursday 17 April
There are lots of free, fun things for everyone to enjoy in Plymouth this Easter.
We’ve compiled a list of activities and events and things you can share with friends and family – from Easter trails on the Barbican to treasure hunts at our libraries and storytelling sessions at The Box.
Plymouth voters will soon be asked to choose how they think the city should be governed in the future, following the submission of a petition requesting a directly elected mayor for the Council.
We have checked the validity of the signatures submitted and the threshold of obtaining support from at least five per cent of registered voters in the city has been reached to trigger a referendum.
Proposals to hold the referendum on Thursday 17 July will be considered at the Full Council meeting on Monday 28 April.
Old Town Street and New George Street will soon formally become a pedestrian area, bringing it in line with the rest of the city centre.
From Monday 28 April a traffic order will mean restrictions apply to this redeveloped public space, which has been transformed and updated as part of a multi-million investment in the city centre.
These are major shopping streets and more people want to sit and eat at some of the newly opened businesses, as well as enjoy the transformation of this area. It has been packed in recent weekends, with music sessions and a food market.
As Easter Monday is a bank holiday, all bin collections will be a day later than usual next week. This includes brown, green and garden waste collections.
All Easter egg packaging can go in your green bin – the box, foil and cardboard or plastic insert.
Our recycling centres at Chelson Meadow and Weston Mill will be open on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday between 8.30am and 5.30pm. Don’t forget to take proof of your Plymouth address.
Our children’s home Downham House, which provides short breaks for those with severe learning disabilities and complex needs, has received a ‘good’ rating from Ofsted.
Thirteen children currently enjoy a regular short break at the home, which provides vital support to their families. The inspection in March found that children are excited about their visits and are nurtured and supported with activities designed to suit their individual interests and needs.
There will be some changes to our services over the Easter bank holiday weekend.
- All our libraries are closed on Friday, Sunday (as usual) and Monday. Some will be open on Saturday for Easter activities.
